185mm Pulley Drag racing Results/Questions:

Hey all. Got my first runs in with some recent mods( 185mm ASP and tune) at Eurofest at Toronto Motorsports Park. The KLR CLS slayed all comers to take home the RWD win in the Euro Drag Racing Event with consistent 12.0's . Got the launch technique down pretty perfect rocking 1.7 60' times on 20" Monarch's with Falken 452 street tires! Car was consistent as hell running about a dozen 12.1's and the final 4 12.0's. Had I not filled up yesterday would have probably gone 11's. (I ran with 3/4 tank) Mods on the car right now are 185mm ASP, headers, 2nd cat delete, HE and CM30 and Tune.

This new 185m pulley makes huge torque down low but too much heat up top. IAT's were in the 190's on my logger and the ecu was pulling like 20 degrees of timing( weather was 26-27 Degrees celcius too, 30ish at track level so I am sure that didn't help). This meant the car was a dog by the top of second as was evident by my 115-116mph traps. Need to install a rear cooling tank for the HE and install a meth kit before I make any more runs clearly. With a 1.7 60' I should have been runing mid 11's at 123-125 with the power I made on the dyno on Friday (500whp 575wtq in 34 degree weather and 90% humidity).

Anyhow overall great day, and represented the 3 pointed Star with honor as the Euro Drag Champion, but wanted to know what others with 185mm or larger pulleys are experiencing. How are you managing the temps? What did you see for performance impact at higher temps when you installed it? What effect did it have at the track? I am concerned that it might just be too large after all.

Not suprised at your traps with those temps.Have you ever had a smaller pulley on the car?I too was trapping 113-114 with a 180mm.

I say try a 172mm and rip a 11.7 with that 60ft you got

not too shabby for 20's. congrats on the trophy.

which headers r u running? i logged my IATs in this florida sun with and without meth and the difference was 190f without meth and approx 105f with meth. i have the rear mount kit and i think it does more for longevity but wont necessarily lower IATs. just gives you more pulls back to back without heatsoak. i also have 190 puley/cams/tb/intake/pnp heads/pnp SC/exhaust/. i think ill be at the track this wednesday and will post results.

Thanks B. Can you do me a favor and make one pass without meth, then one with. I want to see what it does to your MPH.

Nice 60' on 20" street tires!! Heat just kills these cars, especially with a big pulley like that. Looks like you still had a blast, though!

All, silly question as I'll be installing my 180mm and HE soon. What additional things can I do to cool my E55? I live in Phoenix AZ so can somebody talk to me about Meth or other auxillery methods to cool our MB?

Thanks.

Alex

I'd also like to see back to back runs with and without meth. Maybe do 2 runs without to get the car nice and hot and then a 3rd run with meth to see the difference.

My car runs about .1-.2 faster with the 180mm, but it still only traps 116 mph(same or 1 mph faster than stock). This is with 0 cooling mods. If runs awesome on the street, but I'm convinced that it loses everything and then some on the back half of the track. I swear the car would trap 120 easy on a cool day judging by ridiculous difference in power and torque when it's around 50 degrees outside.

Right now I think the only real solution for me is water/meth, since a heat-soaked trunk reservoir isn't going to do anything, and I don't feel like messing around with dry ice. When I go to the track I like to make 10 to 15 passes, not 2 or 3.

Congratz on the victory! Those are some impressive 60ft's w/ 20's. I need to invest and get some toyo t1's again...I bought my car with Potenza and they suck donkey ballz
