Supercharger Pulley Bearing...

I have been reading up on this quite a bit because my Merc has started the squeal at WOT when shifting. I just want to get the best advice from a larger group since most of you have experience with replacing/fixing this at some point. I would like to save some dough and replace just the bearing but is it really worth it? Should I just replace the entire assembly and save some headache...

If replace just the bearing...where can I get one? I remember seeing someone on here having an in somewhere in TX for like 60-80 bucks. The one on ebay is around 180 then I gotta get it shipped to HI...I love flat rate boxes...lol

this squeal is due to belt slip not s/c clutch. At WOT you clutch is already engaged. the clutch makes a chirping noise between 2000-2500 rpms. Replacing the bearings will not get rid of the chirp.

+1 on the belt slip, but it is an interesting pole and it looks like the OP lucked out for now.

I lived with a true chirping clutch for about a year until I had a massive bearing failure. I can't help but think the chirp contributed to it. The oversized pulley no doubt contributed as well. Inspection of the old clutch exposed (changed at 50k miles) some significant wear so I'm staying in the replace the whole assembly camp.

Many have seen the pic, but for those who haven't, here it is:

Looks like someone had that pulley off before with the marks on the bolt.

Yep, an Indy here in Indy told me the chirp can be fixed with shims. I gave it a go. About two days later the chirp was back. The Indy said it was because I drive the car too hard or as he put it "I enjoy the car too much." Funny, I just thought I tried the cheap fix and it didn't work.

Have a look at the idler pulley in the photo. See the damage on the leading edge? This was done during a botched RT pulley install, Oh wait... it was because "I enjoy the car too much" I forgot.

Apologies to the OP in advance if this ends up being a thread hijack.

what is the black item between the pulley and the SC? Mine looks like it moves a little bit...not the pulley itself but the black band behind it. WHat is it?

Mercedes has an updated clutch pack and flange, parts alone are $2200 / install with parts at the dealer is over $3K. This is a new design to address the chirp. Had mine replaced under warranty and chirp was gone. All of this is in the service bulletin.

I would love it if someone would post the service bulletin...or even the date when it was posted.

My chirp comes between 1000 and 1800 rpm. I wonder why? Does that mean my belt slips more than one that chirps at 2500rpm?
