Unhappy WTF Happened?????

I'm driving my car when suddenly I get a malfunction message "Car too low, stop car." Display is lite up in red and I cannot raise car or change suspension settings. I limp home and look at car from behind and it is leaning down a couple of inches to the right side and the front is barely clearing the front tires. What could cause such a severe problem?

Thanks.

Airmatic strut. Starting to get more of these. Tell me you got warranty or do work on your own?!

This one is a bit pricey from the stealer Coal. Roughly 1500$ beans, maybe a tick less.

On your own it can be done but it is a pain. I would order the Arnott Strut and make the dealer install. The Arnott are just refurbed AMGs but work perfect and have lifetime warranty.
Do a search for arnott industries

I have Mercury Platinum extended warranty. Any chance it will not be covered?

E55K AMG
could be one of these reasons.
  • relay
  • air pump
  • air spring suspension
sounds like your warrenty will cover it.

I doubt they will cover it, at least thats what Mercury told me when I was looking into getting a extended warranty. The agent flat out said they don't cover the air suspension. If they do cover it then consider yourself lucky.

yup - many companies will cover the car but draw the line at the suspension -- even thou its OEM - they will not cover air suspensions -- Knowing that it is one of the things that go bad on this car - I hope you did your HW before you bought that warranty -- If not covered- order the rebuilt its not too expensive and have an indy install it.

Some aftermarket warranty companies cover it but unfortunately most don't. Either way, I would definitely push to get it covered first. If not, then go with the Arnott as Jim suggested.

i shopped mecury and they say everything is included -- but i asked to make sure the air-suspension was covered --- they said NO --- So, I went with another company.

Well it turns out it is the front right strut, which is not covered by my extended warranty. (Warranty does cover air compressor and other components of suspension which I had replaced a month ago.) Too make matters worse, dealer recommends replacing both front stuts and will not replace only one. Cost $2,600!!! I took your advise and ordered parts from Arnott Industries. Cost $400 each versus $1,000 plus each from Mercedes. The good news is that the dealer agreed to install the Arnott struts.

Thanks again for your advise. Looks like it saved me over $1,200.

Beers are on Coal then!!

Glad we could help buddy

Seems like lots of these airmatic failures are popping up lately. Hope Arnott keeps plenty in stock.

OH don't forget to save your packing materials and slips they send you for returning and getting 100$ each for your cores. They include per paid shipping label.

This is good to know - I don't have a problem yet but I'm out of warrenty. It just so happens I was talking to a MB tech last week and he told me "his" cost is $800 per strut.

They wouldn't happen to have anything like that for ABC suspension, would they?

i am glad to hear this -- years down the road when my warranty is void -- I may need this link.. its a reasonable way to repair for a fraction of the dealer cost -

Airmatic failed a couple days ago!!! I got the car too low message and the entire right side of the car is very low to the ground while the left side is normal. The car is raised and in comfort mode, so there is definitely a problem. I think my Chrysler warranty covers it though, so whoooo!
