Hey guys. What mods are needed to take a stock M5 on the freeway/highway (high speeds)? Would a pulley, tune and headers do it? Those things simply haul butt top end wise.

Remove 55K and replace with a V12TT.

I think he just needs to beat him to 120 or so, no one's going 160 on the freeway lol

I'm just referring to a stock M5. I'm trying to figure out what mods I need to keep ahead if we're on a long stretch of road. From start all the way to 130 I'm not too concerned about. From a dig I know his car will see my tail lights for a while (granted if I get traction and a decent launch). It's having an M5 not even have the chance to pass is what I'm referring to. I'll be doing this on a closed course BTW. I just used the freeway/highway subject line for general reference.

Pulley tune and headers are all fine and dandy, but without a larger heat exchanger to keep IAT's at least kinda under control, you have no chance.

You'll get one run in...if you are lucky... and the car will be so heat soaked under that Texas sun, the M will humiliate you up top. No joke, it will leave emotional scars on you how bad these things run when piping hot.

The E55 already has a flawed intercooler cooling system and mods just magnify that flaw.

If you are gonna go ANY mods at all, you need a larger heat exchanger for your intercooler and an upgraded johnson or comparable pump. Most guys just go CM30's. It's not that much $$ and it does help but you STILL have to try to keep your car as cool as possible before running him. I would recommend getting to the event super early and letting her sit with hood open in shade for quite awhile.

Good luck and post vids.

Haha, man if it was that easy.m5s stock for stock consistantly out trap us in the 1/4 so adding summer heat will also make it alot harder.

If you run him make sure its a cold blower and drive off boost untill you run him

They don't always out trap stock 55s if you look at dragtimes where around a dozen M5 E60s or M6s are near/over 13's with low traps and supporting videos or timeslips. However, if I were unmodded in a hot climate, I'd still avoid racing an M5 or 6 on highway runs since they are geared better.

I know exactly what you need.. You need to make 550 RWHP and the M5 can not have more than a tune/ pulley.. That M5 7 speed is brutal from a roll.. Makes up for a lot of power!

2006 E55 AMG --old cars -- E39 M5, 2.7tt Audi S4, E36 M3 **Ducati 996, 748
the cars are pretty neck and neck - when they are stock -- E55 is easy to make faster -- So, pick any Mod and it should push you over the edge -- you dont need a combo or all of those mods -- If you want to do the fewest mods -- I suggest - headers -- it will help with heat issues -- it will free up a ton of power through the entire RPM range --including the top end -- and you will be able to eat a stock M5 anytime & possible a M5 with an ECU upgrade --

M5 is a beast.... i had an E60 M5 for about 2 years and they are nothing short of supercar status.... My E55 has 505 hp to the wheels and I still get pulled on after 140ish by my buddy's M5... By far one of the best cars on the road. But im addicted to Torque..
