8 quarts of Mobil 1 OK?

I put in 8 quarts as the manual says with oil and oil filter, 8 quarts. But now I'm reading the forum and I see everything from 8.5-9 quarts.

Should I fill it with one more Mobil 1 quart? Or is 8 good?

The reason I ask is because I've driven about 40 miles since and no sign or anything from the car saying my engine oil is low.

What do you guys think? Thank you in advance.

You don't want to overfill of course but if too low, the oil light will drive you insane when oil moves around and triggers a low warning.

When I went 8.75 qts, the car was fine. I think if you come between 8.75-9qts, you are fine.

BUT put your car in dyno mode and she will give you a real time oil level when started. DONT FORGET TO TAKE IT OUT OF DYNO MODE. Doesn't happen automatically.

Instructions here. I don't know why but this guy just has a killer voice.

no need to put it in dyno mode, just go the the hidden dash manuflip it once up, under the engine type number u will see the oil level, to read it while the car is off u got to put it on 2 ignition.

and while you are driving the oil level will change, but don't but dyno mode on. no need to reach that page.

And of course, for the most accurate reading, buy a factory tool oil dipstick and fill to the precise millimeter of level called for by the specifications.

I've used 9 quarts the last 4 oil changes and it works fine. If you use the dash display to check oil level and you look at the quart reading, it will say something like 7.3 quarts even when you have 9 in it. Its a good way to keep track of consumption, but don't expect it to tell you the exact amount in the engine.

when it reads 7.3 that is 7.3 in the oil pan the rest is in the motor

and if u over fill with oil u might blow the rear main seal on a long trip (but fyi if u have 2 much a light will come on saying how much 2 drain)

Here is your answer

2006 E55 AMG takes 9qts of synthetic and that includes the filter and 5w-30 is fine. The reason I know is because I have a MOTOR Quick Lube guide it tells me everything you need to know about every vehicle out there on the the road.

Well if you're racing your car then yeah you would want a heavier oil but for daily driving 5w-30 is fine. I run it in all my customers cars and have never had a problem and Mercedes recommends it. Like I said I have a guide that is used by 95% of all auto shops in dertermining which oil is safe to use in a vehicle and 5w-30 is one of them. If you want to run 10w-60 then go for it I'm just posting what Mercedes says is fine to use.

your wrong bro,go to a dealer with a e55 and try to get 5w30 in a hand built amg engine and they will laugh at you.

AMG uses 0w40 and 10w60

just for giggles what does your book say about a e63 and a bmw m5? put 5w30 in an m5 and you will spin your crank bearing in about 5 min of driving

When I bought my car I called my local dealer and they told me to use only 0w-40 in our cars. That 5w30 is like as thin as water,I would not run it.

Why go

to the dealer? You can diy or find a good indie shop to do the service for far less.

yeah its about 110 for me when I do mine at my friends shop,I get 10 quarts at like 8 each plus tax and the filter comes out to around 110.But if this guy did it at a jiffy lube he needs to make sure it has the right filter in it also.

I put 9.5 in the car and keep the extra in the trunk.

jiffy lube

never a good indie shop.
However I see on another thread that he is new to the car and looking for a warranty extension and some other inspection work.

to who is saying its bad im using 10w60.

well our weather is not like yours in US.

in summer its min 33C and can reach up to 54C although i drive it only @ night once or twice a week in the summer.

while winter its min 7C and can reach up to 30C.

so i think 10W60 is better for me. and as i said, i have been using it since a bought my first car, and no problems untill now.

i always race my 55 and drive it hard every moment.

No one said 10W-60 was bad. In fact, a few people said MB recommended it.

5W-30 is the oil in question here.

So I changed the oil. Swapped with 0w-40 as recommended by the dealer.

The car now has a fresh oil change with Mobil 1 0w-40.

Thanks for all the help.

Heres what it says exactly for your E55:
All temps: 0w-30, 5w-30, 0w-40, 5w-40, 5w-50
Above -4 degrees: 10w-30, 10w-40, 10w-50, 10w-60
Above 5 degrees: 15w-40, 15w-50
Above 23 degrees: 20w-40, 20w-50

For an M5: Castrol RS (motorsport) 10w-60 9.8qts

Here's a link to the company I use for finding the service info on vehicles. You may want to let them know that they are printing bad info. www.motor.com
