2006 E55: Confused about brake caliper setup...2 or 4 pads per rotor?

My '06 E55 is in need of brake pads. After great experiences with Porterfield R4S on my Ferrari 360 Spider, I've intended to replace the MB OEMs with R4S's.

In looking on the Porterfield site, I'm confused. They list both a 2-pad/rotor setup (AP847 for $169) and a 4-pad/rotor setup (AP983 for $$379). Rears are AP984 for $129).

Did MB do a change mid-year? How do I figure out what I need?

Thanks in advance.

I was looking at a parts site, and it showed:

03-05 4 pads per caliper (Front)
06-06 2 pads per caliper

I do not know if/when it chaged, or if it ever reallly did. I think we need some 06 guys to chime in. I have an 04 E55 with 8 front pads.

My 2006 takes 4pads per front caliper - When I ordered mine -- the brake guy knew of this confusion -- So, he recommeneded that I call the dealer and give them my VIN to verify before i ordered... or you can take off a wheel and take a peek.

The E55 with 8 piston front calipers used 4 pads per rotor period. I do not understand all the confusion associate with your cars. Some drive the car, and don't know squat about them.
