Guys the 20hp gains claim has been discussed in depth with track times on other threads ,please do not rehash the same old arguments here. It could be a thousand hp, means nothing if you cannot drive or put it to the ground. This explains why those here with the most HP are rarely the quickest.

I'm sure you can put 20hp to the ground :P
All jokes aside, whether its 1hp or 20, point is its free, and it helps so don't see what the argument is, just do it!

I grinded the shaft in my VRUS 80mm TB. All I can say is that I felt increased power right after the grind. That "increased power" could be felt for about 3 days of driving. Then, I guess I got acclimated to the increased power. However, there is no doubt you will feel the increased power. I believe ALL that hv done this mod will say the same.

To truley test this either:
A) dyno before/after (same day, same dyno) OR
B) track the car before/after (same day, same weather, same level of heat soak in engine)
I just don't see 20hp in this..... but I'm being honest.
It is VERY hard to feel 20 hp on top of 580!...... do A) or B) above and I'm a believer.
No flames...... just my opinion... we all got em

Just thinking out loud here, but where are the extra ponies coming from? More air? If so, more air means a leaner condition. Maybe not enough more air to create dangerous AFRs, but maybe so depending upon other mods and tune.

Is this true under all conditions? The reason I ask is I had a RT pulley and tune done. The AFRs were where they should be. I then added an 80 mm TB and shorty headers. Thinking the ECU would compensate, I did not retune immediately. When I did, I learned my AFRs were on the lean side.

ECU on any car will adjust but only to a certain degree. Your mods are above minor so one could not expect the ECU to compensate which is the reason for a tune to begin with.

I'll jump on the bandwagon too with this and chime in with my opinion...
I did this mod myself over the weekend pretty much exactly as the pics show in the first post of this thread.
The car feels slightly more crisp on half throttle, like it is happy to give me more power at slightly less throttle input (not sure if that makes sense to anybody) but most noticeable is the full throttle surge up top. It's not a huge difference, but it's definitely noticeable and the car is slightly more willing to pull as it tears towards redline.
However, if I bought an 82mm throttle body for the insane amount that they retail for, i'd have been very disappointed in terms of power/cost, but this is apparently fairly close to it and it cost me nothing so I'm happy and enjoying the better driveability now

Are there any pics showing how to remove the throttle body and do new gaskets need to be purchased for reassembly? Any risk of getting metal particles in the throttle body passages? Just want to be clear before I tear into mine, thanks.

Easy to do; the issue I receive more PMs on is a code afterwards caused by not completely inserting the hose below the throttle body into the throttle body. It is also held on with a clamp that attaches to the two lower throttle body bolts. It holds the hose up into place so that it does not fall out.
Some have also had to perform a throttle body 'reset'.

Nice thread. did this on my c55 the other day, no chance to drive it due to snow.
but i did som calculations for fun.
you almost gain area equal to an 78mm throttlebody if you grind the shaft down to 5mm wide, originally it´s 10mm.
And to put sugar on top,, adding an 80mm throttle on an std C55 or early e55(N/A) will not gain as much as it could due to the area in elbow is to small likewise the airmeter.

WTF, grinding the shaft down? I'm confused. Do you all mean "Porting" the TB?
Are you porting around the blade or grinding the bar in the middle of the TB?
