Akebono vs. Hawk Ceramic brakes

Need new front brakes and rotors on my E55. This is my first replacement at 42k miles. I'm not sure if the previous owner had replaced them prior but I am assuming I'm running OEMs right now.

I've been reading a lot about Akebono's and most are favorable other than some noise issues.

I went to my "car guy" that does high performance mods and tunes, etc. and he said he recommends Hawk Performance ceramic over the Akebono's. He said they are quieter and better performance.

Any opinions or experience with the two?

Thanks!

Having used both on various cars I would go for the Hawk HPS pads IF they were available for this car and I do no believe they are. Hawks have decent stopping power, low noise/dust, quiet, and are good on the rotor based on 6 or 7 sets on prior cars. The Akebono's are just a quiet/low dust alternative to stock with marginally better stopping abilities. Porterfield and Red would be a better option from a stopping aspect, though the Reds still eat up rotors even with their improved compound. I will pick up some Porterfields next.

The price I was quoted for the Hawks, parts and labor, is $700. Is this a decent price?

Akebono's and elbow grease should be about 250 with new sensors included.

Akebonos are the way to go! Absolutely no brake dust. If you put the anti-squeak paste that comes with them you shouldn't have a noise problem. Here is a couple pics after one week of driving. The first one is my Brembos and the second is the Akebonos, you could see a major difference.

not what you were asking but the EBC reds are best bang for your buck -- they bite !!! and when my 4200lb+pano car is flying -- I need some BITE.

All in all - with our calibers you cant go wrong. and with any pad you need lots of lube !!! dont be shy with the lube !!! 8 pistons 4 pads per front wheel -- lube it like a porno -- I did and have had no problems with squeak after break-in.
