Reflect-A-Gold Insanity
I just hit 60k miles and I needed to change air filters and spark plugs (oh yeah, and oil too). So listening to all you guys talking about wrapping intakes and what not I decided to do this.
I ran out of tape on the intake tubes, but those are easy to finish at some future date. I left it like this tonight. Tomorrow I change the plugs and reassemble. I will take a finished picture then.
Crazy

Hate to be the first to say this but with all that tape it looks ultra tacky - no pun intended. On a Honda or Ford, it would be ok but you're driving the top of the line E class.

Of course to your point, here it is on a Honda. A very expensive Honda.
As for those of you asking about performance numbers, I just replaced my spark plugs and will show you guys a DIY post later. Not bad to do at all. My GM F-body was far worse.

i think it looks fine -- i wouldnt expect it to give any gains but it cant hurt performance --- you got a new and fresh look out of it --

i know for a fact that the gold wrap is one of the best insulator / heat repellant and i'm interested in quantitave numbers regarding intake heat reduction as well as radiant heatsoak reduction, we used it on an RSX-typeS with a PeakBoost ball bearing turbo kit. kept the heat transfer out of the intake so well that after runs the intake manifold that used to burn your hand was actually just warm after the wrap job all over the place. he spent BANK doing it.just funny that it makes your under hood shot look like ya boy right here. works well tho..

fwiw, if you don't like the gold look then Aero-Lite is supposedly just as good (96%) and it's silver. This place sells it: http://www.earlsindy.com/index.php

So I used Reflect-A-Gold by Design Engineering Inc (http://www.designengineering.com/). I bought it from KMJ Performance (www.kmjent.com). I bought a 2"wide 30ft. I was a little short of what I intended, but I think it is good enough.
I also bought some "titanium" exhaust wrap with the intention of wrapping the exhaust from the header to the catalytic converter to reduce heat in the footwell of the driver side. Upon closer inspection it was not worth it. Maybe some day I will do long tube headers.
Anyone in SF bay area want to buy it from me?
Oh yea, found this MB F1 engine with gold bling!

Yeah that F1 wrap is super expensive and only lasts a short time apparently. Take some more of those thermal pics now. It would be nice to see the difference with the pics (I think those were your pics you posted once, right?)

You are correct. The problem is, that taking a thermal image of a reflective surface only tells you the temperature of what is being reflected. The only way to really see if this changes the intake temp is to measure it before and after. Sorry, did not do it before.

I assume part of your reasoning for doing that thermal imaging in the first place was to find out where the big hot spots were to eventually wrap.
