Help Identifying Phone Connector Type (E55 MY2004) Japan
Hi everyone
I'm new to both the forum and this is my first Mercedes - the experience to date has been excellant. Just a few minor things I'd like to get going if at all possible so I'm hoping someone out there may have some info.
I have a MY 2004 E55 that is a Japan Spec car - it has been imported to New Zealand and I'm trying to find a way to get either mobile handset or a bluetooth module to work in the car - with the existing cradle cord if possible.
After spending hours searching and checking images and trying to locate what kind of mobile phone, or connector plug this is, I'm running out of places to check. I have even been into my local dealer and they have checked with Mercedes NZ and have no extra info to help me, other than they don't think a bluetooth module will work - the standard plug for it doesn't fit this - so I'm hoping someone out there may be able to identify from the images attached what it is - or what kind (part number) of cradle types it may plug into, as the cradle that is with it is a Mercedes Universal cradle (part # A 211 820 04 51) that holds the plug and the phone goes into the plug directly.
I'm advised it is a similar scenario for the GPS - no option to update the maps etc to Aus/NZ - thats not a huge deal as a separate Navman/Garmin etc is fine - to change out the Command unit is estimated at $7000-10,000 NZD.
I would greatly appreciate anyone who can provide any idea as to what this plug might fit - Mobile Model/Type etc
Tks - Craig.

Hi,
Thanks for your quick response - I have tried to get a clear pic of a Siemens S75 to compare but there are not many about that conclusively show the same number of connectors pins etc - it does look to be the closest option though. On closer inspection it appears a little different - if anyone out there has seen this connector (with something actually plugged into it) I'd love to hear what it was.

Hi - it doesn't appear to be a Siemens S75 - have checked again and the S75 has pins above the input socket - this plug would seem to require a phone that has a spade type connection inside the socket - may not even be Siemens as I can't seem to locate a phone that looks similar to this looking at all the different data connector type cables.
Will keep searching.

Just an update - the connector appears to match a DoCoMo connector type - 16pin - I tried a Sharp GX10 that has the same connector and the system 'sees' that there is a phone but when it tries to make a network connection gives the message 'No Response from PDC' if anyone can give me any info on what this may indicate I'd appreciate it.

hi - no further progress, most of the people here have US Spec cars so not a lot of info was offered. Have looked at options to upgrade comand to a Euro Spec but the cost puts it in the same ballpark as a better aftermarket solution so have just left as is. Put a new portable/bluetooth navigation device (tomtom) in the car and that has been fine for handsfree and navigation, and was better than trying to get a disc that would upgrade the Jap spec navigation.
There is a dynavin headunit option depending on whether you have an Audio20/50 APS etc also if you want to search or google it for more info.

You might want to consider an aftermarket head unit from Pioneer, Kenwood, or another reputable manufacturer. This will give you many features of a modern head unit (touch screen, blutooth, modern navigation, etc.) more much less than upgrading COMMAND systems, unless you are dead set on keeping it stock.
ETA: There was recently a thread on someone doing a swap out for a Kenwood unit, if you search.
