It works as well as you would expect a heavy sedan with 507hp. You will notice the weight, just have to drive smoothly, no abrupt throttle input's and make sure the esp is on.
before i bought my car I arranged a test drive and it was a freak out of the blue rain storm as we pulled out of the dealership. The sales man(who my wife bought 2 previous mb's from was ok with the rain) As I drove through a downpour, I was suprised how stable the car was espically at high speed.
I have not been disappointed with my 63. Hope that helps

Thanks all for the good info. My Last four benz's have been all wheel drive, 2 ML's which I hated an E500 and my current 07 E550. Been dealing on an 09 E63 and probably will put the deal together this weekend. I also had several 190's and a C which handled excellent on the wet. But the 63 of course is a totatly different animal.

The E63, does handle very well in the rain, as long as you have respect for the throttle. ESP must stay on, as these cars are very lively, and tail happy even on partial throttle. And you need a good sets of tires, I run Continental Extreme Contact DWS, and they are phenomenal in the wet. Remember respect the skinny pedal. And you will be fine.

2006 E63 AMG
Having just switched over from an Audi RS6 (which is an absolutely epic wet weather car) I have to say I am pleasantly surprised by how well the E63 copes with wet roads. I'm running 1/2 worn Michelin PS and the wet weather performance is surprisingly good....with ESP ON!

+1. Use common sense, and as long as your tires are not bald (or below 2/32nd tread depth) you will be fine.
When I brought mine home there was some wet pavement when I accelerated briskly, and the traction control caught me. So just be reasonable.

It spun easily. So, to answer the OP, these handle fine in the rain (E63 / E55), just be carefull. With LSD might be a little more dicey.

In heavy rain situations, ESP on is probably a good idea. However, in light rain scenarios, I noticed I still had quite a bit of control on the road (given I control my foot of course 
).
