DIY on grille removal?
I read the DIY thread and nothing there on how to do this.
I heard this can be a PITA. Just wondering if anyone has written a DIY or basic instructions on how to remove our grille. This is for the E55.

If you are talking about the main grill, my 6 year old could do it. It is like 6 bolts and its off. I dont think threre need to be a DIY for grill removal. Have you opened the hood and looked at it?

Grill comes right out as others have stated. Now, if you plan on painting it, things get more difficult as the grill should be separated. Easy to do, just time consuming.

You want to do it right and separate the pieces. I used a couple of flat heads to do this. Also remove the lower rubber pads so they do not get painted. It is much easier this way and you ensure the entire assembly gets painted.

Yes, I'm thinking I can paint this as a whole assembly together. Also, I am NOT doing the painting myself, but my good friend of mine has his own custom paint business and he will be doing all the professional painting work.
I think I am just going to let him have at it as it sits right now as an assembly.

It take no more than 10 minutes to separate the grille starting on one end and just working around.
I stripped the chrome off (A *****, though it does peel off), filled in any issues, primer, 3 coats, and clear. I used trim paint initially over the entire grill and it did not hold up (150mph behind a Z06 and he went over sand which took the paint almost all off the grill). I went with Rustoleum and it is holding up very well.
