WTF need new transmission at 56K miles

Hey guys, I currently have 56K miles on my car and last week the car was just reving and not moving so I brought it to a Transmission specialist and they said I need a new tranny...wtf I don't understand I don't even beat on my car. It figures this happens when my warranty is up too.
I always had it serviced at a local MB dealer and there records show I had a leak in my tranny last year and they said they fixed it...could this have been the cause of the problem?
I dropped it off at the dealer and contacted MB HQ and filed a complaint and now waiting for the results.
Can anyone give some suggestions?
Thanks.

Many of the independent tranny shops don't know what to do when you hand them a Mercedes transmission. So often, they opt to replace it. Try taking it back to the dealership and see what they think?

It's definitely the tranny...they took the pan off and it had shredded metal like sand. My worst fear has happened

Thats sucks. It would be interesting to know what caused the failure. Guess if there were metal particles, may have replace the torque converter, flush the lines and tranny cooler.

alot of times its those little metal filings that keep the tranny going and once you switch the fluids the trannys dont move afterwards .

Dont have any suggestions on how to get a new tranny under warranty etc, but if you end up having to buy a brand new tranny and TQ, I would send your tranny to Southern Hotrod and have them rebuild it. They specialize in our trannys (well the dodge 722.6 but it's the same thing)

Only be around 3650...MUCH LESS than a stocker brand new and they will install better clutch packs etc. She'll be pretty much bullet proof after that.

Just an idea if you end up having to shell it all out from pocket.

I replaced my transmission around the same millage as you. I threw out my trq converter which sent metal into the tranny. I bought a brand new from mb at cost for $1400 then trq converter was around 600. plus install. Hope this helps!

They can't figure out what cause the tranny to go bad...they diagnosed it and said it showed slippage and charged $250. I could have told them that the car was not moving in gear.
They are putting a new tranny but charging me 1300 labor 460 fluid 1300 torque converter. I'm still fighting with mbusa to get the torque converter covered as well.

How much did you dish out in total? What caused yours to go bad?

$1450 tranny, $600 trq converter, and I think Like $300 install, plus core, but that was done by an independent shop, that I own.

My went out under heavy driving with lots of smoke taking a friend for a ride, with drag radials.. I just feel out of gear and wouldn't engage in any gear.

Question if I have an extended warranty for 100k miles and my tranny goes bad they fix it for free correct?

Pretty sure yes but just asking.

I thought these tranny's were bullet proof but I guess not!

Thanks.

Yes your warranty should replace transmission. I think only a handful of us have managed to blow up the tranny. Mb gave me a 2 year free warranty with mine and that was the main reason I went with them, no one else offered one at the time!

Good morning guys, I hope that this thread is still good for the transmission problems, I need to know if anyone has the droning problem coming from the rear of the car. It started with the Valeo or what ever radiator problem with fluid leaking into the transmission. There was a TB on this not a recall. The certified Tech. did the test for glycol and found small traces. They flushed the transmission and replaced the radiator. They dropped the pan and no metal in the collector so they told me the Transmission is good. But after I got it back about a month later it started droning and some vibration, droning noise coming from rear again and seems as though it doesn't want to shift gears to third until I apply more gas to it...I took it back to Larry's Mercedes Import and they said it may need a torque converter ...SO after spending $1600.00 the first visit and now they want to charge me $1490.00 for replacement of a torque converter...Does anyone have an idea what may be my next step? and No my warranty expired about a year ago...

I'm in a similar situation as you but when they found a leak in my car last year they said they fixed it and left it at that. A year later with 56K miles I need a new tranny. I work in the city so I use public transportation and my car is hardly driven during the weekday and I definitely do not abuse my car but with this incident well I guess luck was not on my side.
I contacted MBUSA and they were not willing to help it was my dealer that offered bc I have been going there for all my maintenance and service. Transmission no cost.
$1300 Labor
$470 Fluids
$1300 TC
The only thing I'm concerned is that I don't think they will give me a new tranny out of the box...i'm leaning towards a rebuilt one.
Anyway's I've been shopping and found a independent shop will do everything for $2000 with 1 yr warranty.
This is very tempting.
Good Luck

I live in Va Bch, and the independent maintenance teams around here are pretty good....Better than the dealers it seems anyway, and a lot less...No Major Overhead!!!
Anyway, I got a quote of $1400.00 that's just chnging out th TQ and fluids...and Labor...other than that I'm looking to replace that and hoping that's the only problem I run into...
