Seat removal gotchas. (2006 E55)
Alright guys... Web research makes it look pretty simple and not much on our board shows anything....
But all I'm going to do is remove my right passenger seat and temporarily replace it with one I bought with the intent of turning it into and office chair only to be able to adjust it to a good sitting position (it shipped leaned way forward).
I haven't dug in yet but I'm guessing 4 main bolts and about 4-6 plugs.
Has ANYONE removed or replaced a seat?

Maybe buy a couple cheap connectors and some wire from Radioshack and build extensions for the wiring harness that way you don't have to remove the whole seat??

I would try and get the wiring harness schematic.
Then apply 12V to the motors to get them to move in the desired direction. Of course, it could be that the only thing going to the seat is 12V and a CAN interface, but that would seem overly complex

No meetings or conf. calls today...so I'm diving into this!
Plan on removing the passenger seat (found a nice write-up) but I will also document it.
Gotta get the seat in and powered up so I can move it into a position for use. I don't plan on going the extensive route of adding a battery, the brains, and the additional seat controls (would be awesome...but just don't see it as reasonable).
But it should still make a cool office chair.

Out Of Control!!
Haven't tried on the E but in previous experiences there are 4 bolts at each corner and some wire connectors under the seat. Slide the chair all the way back and get the 2 front bolts and then all the way forward and get 2 rear bolts or vice versa. You will get a SRS light once you disconnect chair though

Supposedly if I disconnect the battery first (as mentioned in that thread I found) I can dodge the SRS light coming on.
Gotta run out to get a star socket for those for bolts.

Just finished. Pretty damn simple.
4 E-12 external Torx bolts hold the seat in and then there are 4 harnesses and one vacuum line and the side mounted seat belt.
Step 1: Move seat all the way back and take out the front two bolts
Step 2: Move seat forward enough to access the rear two bolts
Step 3: Remove all bolts and make sure seat is relatively centered
Step 4: Disconnect battery
Step 5: Lean seat backward (manually - duh...just lean it back on its rails)
Step 6: Disconnect all harnesses & vacuum line and then pop the wire loop that bundles the wires off the bottom of the seat
Step 7: Remove seat belt (internal torx)
Step 8: Remove seat
Very simple. I took some pics but since it's SO easy, there's really no point.
By disconnected the accessory battery (or whatever that is in the upper left hand corner of the engine bay) I did NOT get any sort of SRS warning.
Now I've just got to fab up the base to attach my chair base to and then bolt the seat to it and I've got my niffty E55 OFFICE CHAIR!

Favor to ask of you Pullejo.
Would you throw a quick measure on your E55 seat base?
I have often wondered if I could squeeze E55 seats into the C32.
(Ignoring the electronics issue for the moment)

I will definitely get you those measurements. I'm actually going to make the base plate for the seat today so I have to do that anyway. :-)
Hmmm...I can imagine one of these hunkin' seats in my C32...one of the things I loved about that car were how race like I thought the seat were. These are bloated in comparison. But I definitely could be wrong!

So you only dis-connected the battery under the passenger side of the engine compartment and still got no lights? and when putting the seat back in, how tight did you torq your bolts? tia John

Surprisingly...the seat bolts broke loose from their initially sitting very easily. When putting them back in, I didn't actually measure the torque with my torque wrench but did use blue loctite and full force. Probably not spec'd perfectly, but I know their not going anywhere and they're not over-tightened.
And yes...just disconnecting that "little battery" did the trick!!! Found that on Benzworld I think. The seat is actually "hot"...meaning you can move it via the controls while working.

On another note, I'm removing my drivers seat today to replace the seat belt buckle and harness. Good info cause I need to go buy a TORX socket set.

Hope you bought both external and standard torx (star) sockets... The floor bolts are external and that seat belt harness is standard!
Glad I could help!

Thanks for the DIY.... I am wondering if it is possible to cheat the seat belt to think it has the buckle inserted all time to get rid of the annoying chime. I saw the connection under the seat but cannot reach it. I will pull my seat out and see if i can jumper this connection to think the buckle is inserted therefore no seat belt chime.

Sorry - others might help with that... But not me.

As far as an update on my seat removal, I did it today with no issues. I did end up having to run back and buy that other torx socket (I think it was an E-45 or so).
I was somewhat concerned because my SRS light was on before with the broken harness, and people said that the dealer would have to turn it off. I was happy when I turned the car back on after I was done and the SRS light went off on its own.

Great DIY - planning to remove my passenger seat to identify the dreaded 'srs on light' that seems to plague W211s.
Hopefully, it's just an issue with loose connectors or a readjustment, but this DIY will help me tremendously.
thanks!

Awesome - not afraid of the removal so much as I am afraid that after troubleshooting my SRS issue and not finding out its a connection fault, I'll end up having to fork over $200 in a sensor mat.
I'm glad to see there is DIY for certain things, but I do get frustrated with all the comments about 'see STAR, check online...' I thought that forums were created to help each other out...
