Does this sound about right for lowering with STAR.

Someone here recomended me this shop called "CW Performance" here in North Carolina. According to their website the guy is factory trainned Mercedes Master technician.

He told me that they do lower the cars with the STAR system and that he would charge me $150 for the job. Does that sound about right to you guys?

Is there anything that I should ask or tell the guy before making the appointment? I live in Charlotte and this guy's shop is near Raleigh which is about 3+ hours away... So I want to be sure before I do the long drive up there.

Thats cheap. When I lowered my Es they always reccomended getting SL links which were $300 alone. Not sure why but they did the same on my CLS.

FYI new STAR DAS system costs 375 shipped from china with the multiplexer and cables. I have lowered about 10 cars for free in the Houston area and it take me about 15 mins to do. Now if I had charged 150 I could have got me a set of Longtubes lol

I told him that Im about to put 20"s on my car and that the only thing I wanted is to eliminate the wheel gap, I don't want to slam the car because I drive this car every day.....From the brief conversation that I had with him over the phone. He said that as long as you don't lower it too much you shouldn't anything else to fix any camber issues... is that right?

MAKE SURE you take it for a nice drive before leaving his shop area. Incorrectly done Star lowers will often revert back to stock and you won't know it until you get home or pop out of the car a few hours later.

wow... that is exactly the kind of stuff that Im affraid off.... so after getting it done I'll drive around for a few minutes then turn the car off.. and see if it does anything... If something like that was going to happen would it happen pretty much imidiately?

quick question....
after getting the car lowered via STAR... if I hit the button that lifts the car up or take the car to the dealership to get maintance stuff done... can I or the dealership do something that would cause the lowering to go away by accident?

Really? Where can I get this? Is it capable of doing the same things the dealer can do?

when you lower with STAR on the lowering screen there will be voltage parameters that you have to stay within for the leveling to be saved. people will often slam the car via star and get out of the voltage parameters this will cause the car to go back to stock ride height.
After lowering if you hit the raise button the car will go to stock ride height.
NO dealsership will have to go into the lowering menu to change the ride height.

dude thanks a lot for all the info. I'll make sure to tell him just incase to stay within the voltage parameters.

So after I hit the raise button the car goes up to stock ride height... will the car go back down after turning off the raise button? I would imagine so right?

I can't wait to get my wheels installed and get my car lowered!... I had this car for almost 2 years now. And I haven't done anything to it so far.

Like Shardul said, if the lowering is done correctly, (not hard to do), it is impossible to raise back up by itself. The screen in the process that confirms the new height is a confirmation that the normalization level has been changed lower, so the car does not know what the stock ride height is to even go back to.

wrong. always align your car after a height change. Make sure you correct your toe, as that will contribute to uneven tire wear much more than negative camber will

I'll definately align the car that following week after lowering the car.
I need to just get it aligned back to what ever factory setting are correct? I assum that the setting don't change just b/c car is lowered

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
Just me, but...

out of an abundance of caution, I would install the crash/camber bolts too. Not very expensive and gives you a little extra room for adjustment....

RE: Lowering

I would expect the (Charlotte) shop doing the lowering to tell you what needs to be done, to include parts, and also do the alignment before you leave. I would not take my car anywhere that could not do a complete job. If this shop can't do that, find another shop that can.

My indie is Euroclassics Ltd. in Durham. Probably a little far for you, but they have STAR, parts, Bosch alignment machine, and the expertise to do a complete lowering job right.
