Sub draining the battery, shuts off..solutions?
Just installed a JL Audio 12" W6 with a rockford 600.1 amp. All wired to the trunk battery. Now, it works for a bit but then I get the battery warning on the dash and it shuts off.
Is there a way around this, or do I just need a capacitor?
TIA

I've got a heavier duty battery and a capacitor for the sub in my system...no problems with shutoff.

heavy duty batter and cap definately....
assume you removed the factory amp as well? Otherwise she will drain your battery as well. I had that when I changed out all the equipment. Had to disconnect it otherwise it draws constant power.

Im wondering if just the capacitor will do the trick. Its just one sub, and I've ran much larger systems in my previous cars without issue. The rear battery looks a bit larger than usual too.
The situation sucks though, when the thing dies mid-song doesnt make me happy.

Just try a 10 farad cap. I bet that will solve the problem.
Also is it the car that dies or just the amp that cuts off the subs or the whole sound system cuts out?

Systems in our fiber optic cars always have weird bugs. Just keep it stock and rock smooth jazz over your thunder machine.

Going to throw a capacitor in, see it changes anything. What's upsetting is that its the smallest system I've ran, and I'm getting this bs.

the reason you are getting the warning in the dash is because you most likely have your amp power being supplied directly from the battery terminals... the electrical system in this car is very complex... there are 2 batteries, and in the middle is a battery control module... when your amp is pushing a heavy load, it is most likely making the voltage on the main battery dip below the warning threshold... when the bcm sees this, it thinks the batt is low, and the car will start to shut off consumers to reduce the load on your electrical system... the real "proper" way would be to wire your amps power from the sam, but that gets very complex as your aftermarket amp is going to want massive power...
it's a complex situation, and the only reason i haven't touched the stereo in my car...

Yup I had the same problem, hooked up a 500/1 jl mono amp and a 12w6 and after 10 min the car started shutting stuff off.
I was told to take power on the bat and try to ground somewhere on the car but I gave up since I could barely hear the sub anyway.

Ground the negative lead to anything but the battery terminal and you will never have another problem. I did the exact same thing as you and got the message constantly. As soon as I grounded the amp to the chassis the message never came back.
BTW, it looks like you've noticed that it takes a ridiculous amount of power to get much sound out of a sub in these cars. I have well over 1200W going to my sub and I still think it sucks.

There is a work around with a diode on the battery monitor lead.
You are going to need a cap on those "hard hits" being high volume because the voltage drops so fast.
I have an old school kicker ZR 1000 on 2 15's. And that amp is a pig for power.
I think there is a post somewhere by a board sponsor the guys with the plug and play remote start. On this very issue.

Do you have any more pics of your audio setup? I am looking to do something very similar in mine.

Just an update: It was a bad ground! All fixed and working now. And dang, now I understand what exactly you guys mean about how well insulated this car is. Now I see/am thinking about the AMGfan setup.
It sounds just perfect and awesome with hip-hop, but I'm more of a trance/house kinda guy and it lacks a bit there. Decisions.
Again, thank you everyone for your help!

The only cap of sorts I would use is a Bat Cap . Get a secondary battery. As for bass transfer I have my subs running IB through the rear deck. few photos.

Thanks Mang. I try. I am actually getting ready to redo it again. The subs will stay the in the same configuration. But that B8 that you see in the photo its twin is under it and I want to show them both off. Plus there is a 4100 behind the AMG sign.

Interesting...i've been having the same problem with my car.
Every once in a while, the sub will fire without the music being turned on as well.
It's been bugging me, but it's also minus 40 outside, so not like i'm cruising around all the time.
