Did I use an unsafe oil?
Hi all,
My '07 E63 told me to check my oil "at next fillup". I checked and it was a little low. The manual doesn't really say much about which oil to use, so I called the dealer. They said Mobil 1 5W40. I stopped by Schucks on the way home and picked up a quart of Mobil 1 "Turbo Diesel Truck" 5W40. I asked an employee about that label and they checked with another person, who said it's fine to use in a non-diesel. I bought the quart and used about half of it.
I got curious when I came home and decided to run a search here, where I found there were multiple versions of Mobil 1 5W40. Obviously I used the wrong one. What are the potential repercussions of using that 1/2 quart? Should I stop by the dealer for an oil change?
Thanks in advance!

Diesel oil has more detergents in it. You will be fine. Hell you could Diesel oil all the time like Rotella or Mobil one Diesel and you'd been fine and some would say better protected

You will be fine
with the oil top off. But the proper oil is 0w40 mobil1.
And no you would not be fine with running diesel oil all the time and nobody that knows anything about an amg engine "would say better protected"
MB even states 5w40 m1 to be used only in diesel engines.
The low ash and other additives in diesel rated oil are not mb spec for gas engines.
Rotella

We as owners need to pay better attention, of what we're putting into these cars. If one had bother to read the owners manual, you would have seen the manufactures recommended brand oil and viscosity.

Never had a problem either, and I've done a lot of stupid things. An AMG motor is not some kind of special engine made from carbon-ceramic materials or space rocks or anything. It will be fine, and with the ridiculous amount of oil these things hold and the large oil cooler, you could probably run Auto-Zone brand conventional 5W-30 for the life of the car and never have an oil-related issue.

You might also note the asterisk showing no 30wt oil approved in the AMG engines. Let alone a conventional oil.

5w-40 is perfect
Most mercedes shops are recommending and have gotten updates from Mercedes to use the 5w-40 due to the ethanol that is being added into gasoline these days.
Just wanted to mention that, as I have only been using 5w-40 as oppossed to the ow-40 in my 55 and new c class.
