E55 AMG
Question REAR SHOCKS (WTF)

Ok so ordered rear shocks from MB of San Diego and they bring me ones that look right but there is no yellow AMG sticker on them so I call the parts dept and ask WTF is up with that. He says that the part #'s supersede and these are the correct ones. I asked if the part #'s are the same as a E500 and he looks it up and comes up with the same #'s. I tell him that the E500 rear shocks are certainly not the same ones as an AMG model as the internal valving is different and although they may appear externally identical there should be a yellow AMG sticker and I'd like the correct ones for my vehicle, hell if I'm gonna shell out 9 bills for some fergin shocks that ought to be more like 200 ea, I would at least like the CORRECT ones, he says he'll look into it and call me back. He never called me back. Ugh. I gave the vin when I ordered AND when I called back.

So, anyone got the CORRECT part number for our rear shocks? It did not come up on my searches here or on google. Is what this guy says true? Don't sound plausible. Input please everybody

I wish I had that handy, they're at my shop. I was thinking while I was posting that someone would ask that and make me feel wee-Todd-did for not having that ready. I'll post it up tomorrow when I get to work.

Anyone? I can't believe I can't find the damn # online, u can find anything in the world on friggin google and I can't find this part # to save my life! I have tried so many search configs.

Weird right? I also asked him to look up the part # for an '06 as opposed to my '04 and he said that they only go by the vin# and he cannot possibly look and see if the #'s are the same or different. Eh?

As far as MB searching for parts only with a VIN... complete BS. Just last week I walked into MB and told them I had a 2007 E63, and need some parts... (front bumper conversion on my e55)...
He printed me a diagram of the front bumper assembly which showed part numbers etc...

They are f-ing with you... I suggest talking to a different dealership...

Also checkout http://epc.startekinfo.com/epc/welcome.jsp you might be able to locate part numbers yourself... I gotta pass out, otherwise I will re check for you tomm!

Oh I am not looking for the rear air springs Tbal I am doing the shock absorbers. I remember reading that If they do not come with a yellow sticker that says "AMG" then they are the wrong ones, is that not true? I welcome any input because I really feel like a fool not coming up with anything after all this searching and I really will feel like a fool if I spend $900 bones on some e500 shocks for my e55. Has anyone heard of this?

I've been looking around lately and I can't seem to find two different shocks, all the shocks I find are listed as E500 AND E55. Considering that the shopcks valving is variable, maybe they ARE the same.

Ok so maybe I'm not going crazy. Well I am, just not because of this...possibly. With all the people experiencing the banging in the rear over quick bumps, I would think this thing was all figured out. I was expecting to see a few threads in my search containing how to, part numbers, cheapest place to buy, etc. Guess it's time to make it happen. I am calling back my parts dept. Tomorrow so I will see what the guy heard from Germany.

Hi redlineAMG. The correct part # for the rear AMG shock absorbers according to EPC.net is the following, # A 211 326 27 00.

Any update on this?

I still think my rear shocks may be bad because they clunk really badly over speed bumps but I'm not sure if E500/E550 shocks are the same and I kinda want to go coilover to forget about airmatic all together but I must admit.....airmatic is awfully nice at times...lol.

Ok guys update is I talked to Chris at San Diego M.B. And he says that there exists a different AMG specific part number in the system and there are AMG shocks in Germany but they're not sending any over here and thus the superseded part number to a more readily available part apparently. So he is telling me that I have the right ones, because that the best I can get. So it looks like unless you have contacts in Affalterbach, you're going to be putting E500 shocks on the rear of our beasts. So as the title of the thread indicates,

WTF?

I'll be honest, considering that the shocks are variable anyways...maybe they just don't see a point in making two different shocks anymore.

Unless one part supersedes the other, which I honestly don't know if it does.

This may be true, but if MB supersedes a part there is nothing you can do about it.
