What's the purpose of the Audi RS6 Avant?

I'm just curious.
Why would Audi build a 505hp station wagon?
If there's an RS6 sedan, what is the target audience for the RS6 wagon? Hamptons soccer moms on crack?
Will it out-slalom a BMW M5 in the elementary school parking lot?
Will the RS6 wagon appear as a woodie--cool panelling and all?
Really...I don't get it.

It sounds like you're more afraid than curious

As far as I know the RS 6 is the only all wheel drive wagon - or saloon - with that kind of performance on the market.
And it will outperform both the M5 and the E55 on the Nürburgring in either format.

btw, there will be a E55 wagon as well.

And the RS 6 is "only" 450 hp. With a chip from Abt it is possible to get 505 hp.

I have an E55 on order

And will take delivery of my Cayenne TT soon as well. If the RS6 wagon were available, I would take it in a second over the Cayenne. I have a family and do a lot of outdoor activities and want the extra space. Also, we go to a snowy environment on weekends, so the AWD would be great too.

If the RS6 wagon were available and I had only one car to choose from, that may very could be it because of the room and AWD (the Cayenne while nice, is still over 5,000 pounds, and you can't fight gravity/inertia)!!!l -- UNLESS the E55 4matic was available.......

There was an W210 E55 Wagon also. It was not available in North America.

Europeans don't drive SUV's like Americans and use station wagons far more than we do here.

The RS6 Avant is not coming to the states. The E55? I doubt it.

Here's a movie of an RS 6 Avant that might make sense.

E55 AMG
Having a super wagon is the ultimate sleeper. Imagine the look of a rice burner boy or your typical sports car guy when they get their doors blown off by a station wagon!

The "touring" (Euro name for wagons) are very popular. The previous gen M5 also had a wagon, and it was a cult car. 50% of those M5s sold in Europe were wagons.

.....those interested in wagons may want to check out the monster wagon being build by Daimler-Chrysler. The Dodge Magnum SRT. Comes with 430HP with comand navigation for supposedly under 40K. LINK 1

None, too young to drive

No official information has been released, but we do know that the 4MATIC model creates 469bhp and 516 lbs ft from its 5.5-litre V8 powerplant.

I can not wait for the New Dodge Magnum with Rear Drive. I want one with regular 5.7L V8 (340HP) and AWD to replace my Explorer Sport Trac. SUV's and trucks are over rated. I hate the lumbering bouncy uncontrolled ride.

I hear that the Supercharger may not be available for production.
