For those with a tune ONLY, give me your impressions please

Hey guys, just looking for your thoughts if all you have for mods is a tune. I know 500 people could chime in about the night and day difference a pulley/tune combo will make, what I am after is people that had JUST a tune done. What are your impressions? Was it worth it? Would you have gone another way? I do have headers already, now I'm just looking for a bit more and I am honestly scared to put a pulley on it after reading things on here. Please let me know how you like your tune Any empirical data is always welcome.

Regards

After any modification, such as headers, I think a tune would be best.

Tune is faster than stock - Headers and tune is faster than headers or tune alone.

Gained 50 wheel HP/ 60-70 torques from the tune (no headers)-so worth it.
Gained .4 seconds at the strip from headers over tune alone (with box tune - soon to be rectified in two weeks) and couple of MPH-also, very much worth it (once it's on the dyno and re-tuned I'll have an idea of how much HP was gained by the headers).

About to pull the trigger on a pulley. I trust the guys who are installing it and the company that makes it - I also assume - this will be worth it.

with a tune on a stock car you will probably pick up 25 to 30 rwhp and about 40 rwtq. which company are you going with?

I drove my car with a LET tune only for about 11 months and enjoyed the car far more than before and then went the route of Evosport shorties as my first mechanical mod.
With tune only as Sharduhl and Motorkas indicated the car will pick up 25-35 RWHP. Headers probably 20-25 RWHP.
I now have a 172mm pulley and Jerry has retuned the car twice since and all I can say is I love my TORQUE.

Odds that a dealer will know the car is tuned if I take it in for warranty work?

nope they will not know unless they are looking to find out if the car is tuned. they have to establish a connection with germany to read the maps of the ecu to see if they are altered. if in the future you get a tune and want to take it to the dealership EC will flash your car back to stock before it goes in and then they can put the file bakc on when it comes back

Wrd.

Sounds like that's the kind of bday present I should buy myself.

Also sounds for the lowest liability bang for my buck.

Yes and no. If you drive around casually you typically will find improvement as the car is very rich stock. But, with more power you have even more urge to press the pedal faster...lol

Have had mine in for warranty work when it was tuned and nothing was ever said, I've even had it in for work after headers and a tune and 0 was said. I had a 3rd party warranty and the dealer only cared that they were getting paid!

YOU NEED A JERRY TUNE! Maybe if he's at cars and coffee this Saturday he could do it then

Just had my car tuned by EC (basically stock) and it made a huge difference. Like Jerry said, gas mileage might drop a little, but only bc you step on the go pedal more often. Definitely worth it!

Too late. Already met him and got my car tuned.

Do it. I just drove home from getting it tuned and the drive-ability is worth the money in and of itself. That and the shift responsiveness if you are button-inclined like myself.

Yeah I had a long drive down Westpark Tollway to do as many pulls as I wanted.

Just look at this 2-3 shift. Sick compared to stock.

What kind of options are out there if I don't want to ship my ECU out? (I'm in Vancouver, Canada. Don't think there are any local tuners here)

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure St. Elmos serves 18 year old Glenlivet to guys with tunes only.

I have an EC tune with nothing else besides K&N filters. Definitely made an improvement in performance without a doubt.

There's always a catch! That's ok, I should have the required price of admission done before the carnivore activities begin.

Since the first one is on you, I will go with your preferred method. Second round is on me, and will be different just to keep things interesting
