Hood ornament vs. flat emblem
Have most the dudes here replaced the classic hood ornament with the flat emblem? I hadnt done it yet, and wondered what the majority view was on the mod?
Also, all pics of the flat emblem look appreciated.

I had the flat badge - went back to the gunsight (I agree - with a black grill on a black car the gunsight looks better). It really is all just a matter of opinion but they're so easy to switch out back and forth - just get the flat badge and that way you can go back and forth as you please...

I debadged my car and ordered a flat badge the first night I brought my beast home! Haha I later painted the OEM gunsight flat black and it does look alot better on my silver car with a black grille FWIW.
At least, that's what I see going on in my mind

I've always felt the upright star made me feel like I was driving a poser Rolls Royce
And yeah, I know the upright star has been around for a century on the MB. But a flat badge just seems a lot less blingy for some reason.
I went with the Mario, too.

I have two custom billet cnc'd flat badges and the hood star. I usually switch between the three every few months. Btw chiro, do you have a further back viewvof the black star?
Here are the two flat badges I have below which are extremely high quality and based on the oem hood star!

I'm rockin this black/silver AMG badge. I really like how it looks on the black car compared to some others I've seen. Fit well, but needed a little 3M tape to secure it completely.

Flying enmblems are too retro.
+1 on the flat badge for first mod. I took mine off and mailed to "Mike D" of the Beastie Boys to use for a necklace charm. LOL. When I see that goofy looking flying emblem thats the first thing that comes to mind--Beastie Boys wearing them around their neck.

After a flat badge I went back to the ornament and haven't looked back since.
I am, one of these days, going to give Mario some money for his flat badge. It's a pure work of art.

+1 for the star. Got my 55 last year, and am considering some mods, but this is not one of them. I think the stock emblem looks fine. This is clearly a personal preference item. Get the flat badge if you like it.
