E55 wagon, Porsche 550 replica
Would you trade a wagon for something smaller?
I have a 2005 E55 wagon that I've been happy with in the 3.5 years and 35k miles I have owned it. I have been lucky with no major issues since the warranty ended, but I know the clock is ticking on airmatic struts and other wear items which could start to add up fast.
We recently traded my wife's A4 for a Range Rover so I don't really need the wagon form factor anymore and this is giving me the itch to get back into something that handles better. Maybe a 1-2 year old C63 or a 911S. I'm worried I will sell it and regret it later since it is a pretty uncommon car and the others I'm looking at are something I will see everywhere I drive. The wagon has the positive and negative of being completely invisible. Good for tickets, bad for being exciting to drive every day.
Has anyone done the move out of the E55 and regretted it later on?

I would say keep her as like you mentioned, they are rare. There's also that ultimate stealth factor. Is it no longer possible to get a warranty on her?

I say keep the wagon, but I am biased. I actually did the opposite of what you are considering. I sold my supercharged Z06 for the E55 wagon. I found myself not using the potential of the Z06 most of the time and started wondering why I REALLY owned the Z06. I found that the E55 wagon is a perfect balance of class, performance, and utility. As you mentioned, the only thing lacking is the handling department. I have not researched this yet, but surely someone will develop a coilover system or other enhancement that will make the twisties more enjoyable.

Well, perhaps I'm a bad choice to ask, as I have a 911TT and the E55 wagon. If I had to sell one, I'd sell the Porsche. I'll never sell the E55 wagon. Irreplaceable and amazing.
If it is top down weather, I always pick the p-car. Otherwise, it's a draw -- the E55 gets as much seat time as the 911.
You have one of the most rare vehicles on the planet. Why sell?
Now, having said that, if you're going Porsche -- go a little older and get an 04 or 05 Turbo. Incredibly reliable and great fun.

Seriously I'll trade you a regular E55 for a wagon any day of the week.
I love those cars and would own two 55's if a wagon came up for sale that I liked.
Keep that thing man, they are so rare.

Tough sell. Not a moms car. Most C lovers aren't going to be looking for this little beauty. And it is a little beauty. But I bet it would sell to someone in the open public. Although,...it might be considered by most to be to low. :-)

You're the grey wagon I see around Richardson, yes?
I find the E55 is pretty much the perfect hot rod for DFW. All the roads here are flat and straight, so what's the point in driving a sports car? You never get to exercise the handling anyways. At least it's possible to enjoy the torque of the AMG car regardless of our boring geography!
That said, I say swap the wagon. With a SUV in the garage, that will always be your vacation car/christmas at grandmas car/roadtrip car. Unless you have a hobby that involves carrying around large objects (cyling, rc aircraft, etc.), it seems you are unlikely to extract any advantage from the wagon form factor.
If you want a Porsche for the delicate tactile feedback offered by the steering, I can understand that. Shoot, I could even see selling the wagon, acquiring a nice E55 sedan, and putting the spare ~$10K in the bank for rainy AMG days...
My personal experience with rare & unique cars is that it mostly means it's difficult to gets parts and competent service.
My $.02.

I agree that the wagon is completely invisible (specially debadged) and to me that is a HUGE plus. As for "not being exciting to drive every day", I do not get this, when I'm driving my wagon I'm sitting inside, for what I can tell it is just a comfortable 500+ HP sedan that I can hang sideway if I wish to; I get all the excitement I want.

Keep it. C63s are too common and a C4S, though a great handler, too slow coming from a 55k. You're just guilty of "grass greener on the other side" syndrome all us car lovers go through. If you sell it, it'll be one of those "why the hell did I do that?" moments that will hit you like a brick wall 6 months later.

I just keep thinking how embarrassing it must be to get smoked by a wagon (if you didn't know what it was), thats one of those things you would keep to yourself and never tell anyone LOL!

Once you have started to lean in a given direction it is hard to pull back straight again. I would keep that car and add to your stable and resources allow. That is a rare car and as someone in so-Cal who turned their stock wagon into a AMG that should have been can attest, very difficult to part with. There is plenty of room to punch it up a few notches for performance and handling. Reworked progressive rate springs change up the shocks, go to a coil over set up, the possibilities are only limited by your wallet. I guess there is a resounding theme here in this thread, may we hope it is in alignment with your final wishes.![drive](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/driving.gif)

I'm surprised how many responses I got. You all have me leaning back toward keeping it. I think the interior on the C63 will be a deal breaker for me long term and a non-Turbo/non-GT3 911 isn't going to have that rarity that I like with the wagon. Time to focus on getting a fun third car even though it will take longer to get there. My wife has been very worried ever since the Lamborghini dealership moved so that I drive by every day during my commute. I keep scaring her by saying what a practical choice it would be with service so close to our house and noting how cheap older Gallardo's are getting.

There is nothing like the look of those who just lost to a wagon:
