Exclamation MB WORLD Help need insight.....PLEASE.....

I searched and read 5 threads pertaining to this issue... I would like some further insight.....

Ill make this as easy as possible. Events in order

1) I hit a massive pothole on the way home today bending 2 of my HRE wheels on the drivers side.

2)I drive 20 miles home limping it because its shaking badly. (No faults/CEL ETC)

3) Get home pull the HRE 20'' wheels off and put on my SL63 AMG wheels with 265-40-18 M/T Dragradials on the rear and 225-40-18 KDW's in the front. Keep in mind the Mickey thompson tires are brand new never drove on them but they are slightly taller (.5 inch) than my old 275-35-18 BFG drags I had on prior....

4) I drive down the street and no more than 2 mins later i get an ABS/ESP Malifunction visit workshop. Speedo shuts down and car stays in the selected gear and will not shift. Red light on the parktronic bar and beeping.

5) Codes are a P0720 and P0500

What is going on here???.......

-Are the new Drag Radials to tall freaking out the computer?
-Did the pothole damage something?? -Although I drove error free all the way home, Until I switched wheels did I get the message.......
-Anyother thoughts please.....

Thanks in advance....

those codes are related to the speed sensor so yes, I'd blame the tire/wheel setup.

FWIW, your rear tire is about 1.2 inches larger than the front and I guess the ecu freaks out or something. Did you change out all 4 wheels or just the two that were damaged?

Front wheels are spinning faster than your rears, it probably thinks that you've got a bad sensor.

If you need to borrow a full size spare, I can ship mine up worst case scenario while you're fixing your HRE's.

update....

I pulled off all the HRE wheels and put on my SL 63 wheels (my drag wheel tire setup) which up until today had the 275-35-18s on the rear. They drove without issue. No Malifunctions. Then I switched to the M/T et streets today 265-40-18 (however there is a .5 inch difference in height...... Maybe it was enough to trigger??

I Just switched the HRE wheels on the back only, and drove it. Now only the ESP Light comes on no ABS light WTF........

It may take a while for it to reset completely.

Put the 63 wheels back on all around and unplug the battery for 20 mins, should solve the problem. the repeat if the HREs give you a problem after theyre fixed

Ok so just switched back to the poor hre's (All 4) which now 2 of them are bent Cleared the codes and drove.... NO malifunctions..... Nothing. So Iam assuming there is nothing i can do and I have to get a shorter tire in the rear?..... Here is the difference in height:

Any further insight will be great. Is there anyway to make the 225-40 18's and 265-40-18 M/T et streets get along together?....

Don't you have a set of black OEM wheels for sale somewhere? I was admiring them [and the excellent price] the other day.

Hey, it served me well. It's 18" too [but probably 6" wide].

Evo - have you tried dropping the pressure in the MT's? I know that the sidewalls on those babies are built to be ripped on, might hold up if your commute isn't super long?

They are currently back off the car for now until i get this tire issue figured out... But the pressure was set at 30psi. I really want them to work because they have a meaty side wall and great tread. Does anyone know if i can make these work??

Thanks again for all your help guys.

PM me if you think you'll need the spare. I'll need it back eventually but if it gets you to work and back, no harm no foul.

Are the barrels on your HRE's out of round? I'd see if whoever sold you them will spot you a set of barrels when HRE decides whether they're salvageable or whether you've got to buy replacements. They've got sick customer service from what I hear.

FWIW when I ran the same MT's at the track I got a CEL for wrong gear ratio. We cleared the code put 265/35's back on and never saw it again.

Instead of looking for a shorter tire for the rear... try to find a taller tire for the front to better match the circumference and rev per mile spec's of your Mickeys.

So Iam still trying to figure out if there is a way to make the 265-40-18 M/T's work.... They are 26inches tall.... Is there a reset or a relearn for abs/speed sensors??

I would try unplugging the battery for 15-20 minutes to see if it works

Here is what the setup looks like its not to overkill, there has to be a way to make it work...??
