Jalopnik's Favorite "Depreciation Special" Sports Car: E55
FYI... http://jalopnik.com/#!5782977/whats-...ial-sports-car
(Disclaimer: I am a fan of the E55 and by no means agreeing nor disagreeing with jalopnik.com. I just thought this was relevant and might be of interest to E55 owners.)

interesting read. I don't think anyone will disagree that Merc's depriciate like a ****, but on the other hand I really don't consider my e55 a "sports car." more of a beefed up luxury car that hauls ***!
too me sports car = 2 doors + RWD + minimal luxuries + massive HP/TQ

Feel so sorry for the kid that buys one now, blows a fresh piston and discovers the cost. Heck even a tranny or rear diff. "Duuuuude, I thought it would be just like the f'in VTec!!!!!". Goes to autozone, "Yeah ummm can I buy uhhhh piston for an amg??"

This is exactly what is happening to these guy, not realizing that regardless if the car sells for $20-40k, it still has the maintenance price tag of a $100k Mercedes.

I don't know why people complain about depreciation.... I actually think it's AWESOME Think about it: you can buy 100k+ car for $30k after a few years. Sure maintenance will still be high but it is still a better scenario than paying high price + high maintenance.... so might as well pay low price + high maintenance. And if you pick the right car, you can end up saving a lot on maintenance as well.
I think the E55 would make a very good luxury project car right now

Thats my intention, once i baseline everything. Funds got diverted from headers/pulley to maintenance now. Took it to dealer for valve covers leaking and recommended below:
Fuel sending unit replaced, done by dealer.
Rear brakes/rotors
new plugs
replace aux battery

I like how all the comments in that article are about wanting to buy used Ferraris instead of the E55.
Even harder to repair and maintain, and way more expensive to own.
