Glad you sorted it all out. I think I'd probably have ended up doing the same fix if I'd have been put in the same situation. I'm a stickler for getting things done right but once the crank is damaged thats a serious bill to replace it your alternative was a much more attractive fix.

I'm going to be doing a pulley install (or getting a specialist garage to do it for me) in the uk and think I might watch them do it. I dont want to have any *** puckering moments or wobble.

It's been three months and MANY WOT runs ( honestly, over 100 WOT runs...most from 40 to 100mph which are my favorite...a few to 150mph which scare me sometimes so they are few ) and it has yet to fail. I even checked the torque a few weeks back and it was still stupid tight. It still has slight wobble but hey...it's not throwing belts or anything and I really can't do much about it so I just don't worry anymore.

All I must say is to make SURE you do the 275lb-ft of torque + 90*. It's a ***** load of torque and I had to do it with a huge pipe and lots of tries but I eventually got there.

I know, you're correct...and I may try another pulley at some point. Maybe an oem style 180 or 178 pulley to see if the wobble is actually the pulley and not the damage to the crankshaft. It's held on though very well and I checked the torque yesterday to make sure it wasn't letting go and it's still tight. But the wobble does make me uneasy. Considering my choices in the matter though, the wobble is better than the alternative ( replacing the crank and rebuilding the engine ). I've raced so many times that it's not even funny...my average fuel economy is in the 14's and I mostly drive highway...lol. So far so good....hopefully it'll last me till the end of the year and I'll probably disassemble the engine and rebuild it stronger than ever...WINK WINK...lol.

Took my pulley off today to swap it with an ASP 178mm oem type pulley to see if my wobble was due to the crank damage or due to the pulley simply being wobbly...well my ASP pulley wobbles just the same so bad news for me.

Regardless, the crank snout and new key look just as good as the day I installed the EC pulley 4 months ago and hundreds of WOT runs after. Good news for me.

Just an update. Next week it'll be 7 months since my pulley apocalypse... my car still runs great...even with the pulley wobble.

I must say I was kinda when I saw what was going on here at first. I know if I was facing the repair costs plus labor time and talking my buddy into letting me use his shop to rip out the engine to do a proper repair I'd probably try the exact same thing. I've pinned cranks for a procharger (belt driven centrifugal supercharger powered off the crank pulley/balancer) install on an iron LQ9 6.0 chevy truck motor going in my old camaro and the pins were tiny in comparison (about the size of the lead in a pencil) to this huge keyway you've added. That motor was built to put a bit over 700 to the wheels on the blower with a small shot of nitrous possible still. I doubt the blower will ever rip this apart especially since you've had it apart after some run time and everything looked as when first installed. I'd just keep an eye on the wobble to see if it ever starts getting any worse. Otherwise I must say my hats off to you and the repair that's still holding up.

Perhaps the wobble could be attributed to two wobbly pulleys......were you able to verify pulleys to be wobble free from another car? Either way, nice save.

I'll tell you what...I've thought of sanding the crank snout enough to allow the pulley to fully seat it's self against the oil pump gear to eliminate the wobble but fear that the clamping forced would be even lower and then the key may eventually give so the wobble will stay.

You think??? If the pulley flys off, I don't think it will be a situation where you are not sure what happened..

If it did fly off, can you provide some details?

If your referring to Josh, then pulley type was EC/ASP-mine that I sold him. &^^%^^^% indy mechanics. He has a thread on it.

Pulley is still attached with no issues. It still has the same wobble it's always had but other than that...looks like I'm in the clear.

So pretty much just making a slot for a larger key...where did you get the larger key?

Then just sealing and new bolt and its good?

Yup. Just grind down a keyway for your new key ( I got one at a local machine shop...they had a ton of them laying around and picked one that fit my pulley ) and insert the key ( you can use glue to hold it in place while you slide the pulley over, I didn't use anything though ).

The oem key is just too tiny to do much. The new one I installed is MUCH larger.

How bad is the "wobble"? Does it look like that it only wobbles during idle? Have someone rev the motor to 2k rpm and see if it's still wobbling? Mine has a slight wobble at idle.

It's pretty bad, even when revved it wobbles but VERY slightly ( barely visible ). Revving the engine won't make the wobble go away, it'll just make the wobble so fast that you can't see it. People are always so scared of wobble yet my car has given me zero issues with very bad ( almost scary ) wobble...lol
