Need help with Key Fob...

I guess you can add it to the list of things that I have issue with on my E55....

I picked my E55 up from the MB Service yesterday. Everything seemed to work well until I got home and tried my key fob...

The keylessGO works just fine. No problems there. BUt after my service visit, the buttons no longer work on my key fob. I can't lock, unlock my doors, or open my trunk with the buttons on the key fob.

Anyone have any ideas? I have tried both (normally) working key fobs and neither of them will unlock/lock/open then turnk of my car.

Is it possible that the Service techs reset something that caused the key fob buttons to stop working? Anyone know how I can re-sync it?

I guess they are fine. The key has enough power to work the keylessgo.

Check out my thread about this... https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...s-popping.html

First isolate your problem.. Check the fuse, then check if your key can still do IR... Point the key towards the door handle, press a button and see if it reacts.

If your fuse is blown, replace it. If not, and IR works, then it might be your antenna amplifier. (i have one for sale if you need it - my thread explains why I have a spare). Its real easy to replace..

Also, you didn't just put on some window tint did you?

Thanks for the tips. When I put the IR right next to the drivers side door, the buttons actually work. But if I move even a couple feet away, nothing. Before I dropped it off at the dealer for service, I could lock/unlock from 50 feet away.

They pulled down the headliner when I brought it in for service to look at my Pano roof. IS the antenna Amplifier somewhere in the roof?

I have checked the fuses in the trunk and they are all fine... one thing strange though, I pulled all of them one by one replacing them as I went. When I finished checking, I clicked the close truck button and then my hazzard lights went on but blinked slower then normal.... when I opened the drivers side door, they stopped flashing.

I think that my car needs an exorcist.

If your keyless go works fine take it back to the dealership and have them fix what they broke.

The keyless go antenna's are at verious points in the car not in the roof liner.

Have you tried changing out the batteries yet in the key FOB? You state that if you are close, the buttons work, but from 50 feet away, they don't... Maybe the batteries are just weak? I replace mine yearly, whether they need it or not, so I don't know what they do when they start getting weak, but it's worth a shot...

The antenna amplifier is behind the pillar in the back (driver's side) If they pulled out the headliner, they would have needed to remove that pillar cover to expose the ant/amp. It's possible that they may have loosened some wires over there.

Also - does your alarm siren work? (try to set it off). I ask because it is on the same power circuit as your antenna amplifier. If the alarm siren doesn't work, then it's a power issue related to the circuit feeding the siren and the ant/amp. But if the siren works, then the problem is narrowed to the ant/amp unit.

The fact that your Infra Red works means your locking system is not the problem, and the fact that your keyless go works means that its not a security system issue, nor is it an issue with your key's RF capabilities.

If you can take it back to the dealer to have them fix it - that would be your best bet.. Otherwise you can check out that antenna amplifier.

I had to do a lot of research on this from the MB WIS docs and all the various forums to fix my problem back then.. Hopefully this helps you out.

Thanks a lot everyone. They did pull out my headliner to try to silent the creaky pano roof. (Which incidentally they did quiet it a bit...). I bet that they did something to the antenna when they pulled the headliner out. Looks like I will be taking it back to the dealer. I just replaced the batteries on my key fob and that wasn't the culprit either. Thanks again guys.

I had a problem with my key where it wouldn't start the car, but would open and close all windows, unlock and lock, and open the trunk, they said it needed to be reprogrammed, but said its wiser just to buy a new fob

I didn't realize that the FOB could close the windows... does yours do this on your E55?

Worked on my E55 and E63. It opens and closes the windows. Point it at the black square on the driver's door handle.

Hold unlock; the windows roll down and the sunroof opens. Hold lock; everything closes.

Well, I dropped it off again at the dealer to get the keys fixed....

I also noticed that when they replaced my headlight assembly due to the Headlight Cornering being broken that now my headlights are 2 different colors. One is yellowish, and the other is blueish. That doesn't seem correct.

Are you talking about the color of the light given off or the actual headlight?
Do you have BiXenon headlamps? the color difference is most likely due to the stock buld being 4300K and you had 6000K or higher HID bulds in before.

I am talking about the color of the light. I have the active cornering BiXenon's.

Did it gives you and code with trying using the key fob?...Posibly the key itself is dead..I would suggest taking the car back to the dealer and see if they could re program. Most likely they probably telling you that you need a new key fob...That's my .02

I took it to the dealer and it turns out that they accidentally disconnected the antenna amplifier when they were pulling the headliner out to look at my sunroof. It is all fixed and working again! Thanks to everyone here for the advice.... it's always good knowing what you are talking about when you drop the car off at the dealer. -Sometimes they need a little help diagnosing issues. :-) Considering the wealth of info here on the forums, you'd think that the benz techs would start here.

I have the E55 listed in the classified section. I just found out yesterday that I'm going to be a dad so priorities have shifted... I'm not 100% sure if I'm going to sell, but don't know how well a baby seat will fit in the back of an E55. :-) One things for sure, if I keep it, my kid is going to get to day-care in style.

Don't sell it because of a baby!!

I just got mine and the first thing I did was load up my 5 year old in a booster seat and my 6 month old in a rear facing car seat and went to the carwash...no problems except less head room in the back to put the baby in the seat than my LR3. I like the idea of a seriously solid car surrounding my kids! My wife won't let me stomp on it with the kids inside though....afraid the G's will affect the baby's brain.....yeah....say no more....

I have pretty much decided that I am going to keep it. -Especially since after I complained to MBUSA, they decided to extend my warranty for another year and an extra 30K miles... covering me until Nov 2013 or 130,000 miles. -I think that I'd be crazy to get rid of this car now.

good choice - and good for MBUSA! Plus you can save money in the future by taking the kids for a ride in the E55 instead of the Disneyland trip.
