W211 AMG Discuss the W211 AMG's such as the E55 and the E63

Forgive the rookie question. Where is cylinder 1?

Forgive the rookie question. Where is cylinder 1?

Few people have said it was drivers front and goes 2 3 4 backwards. My tech said it was passengers front going back 2 3 4
.

Helllppp!!!! Maybe my tech messed it up. He was in the middle of something at the time. Everyone seems to think Cyl 1 is drivers front.

Right (starboard side) front is #1.

The numbering is marked on the cam covers - below the coil packs. :)

Whatever we're tuning!
Passenger side from rad to firewall is 1,2,3,4

Drivers side from rad to firewall is 5,6,7,8.

You tech was correct. 1 is on the passenger side and numbers increase moving from front of the car towards the fire wall. 1 & 2 are closest to the bumper, 4 and 8 are closest to the firewall.

Getting some misfires for 1-4. It's after hard pulls when at idle at redlights. No oil or smoke so keeping fingers crossed it's just a cat. Replaced O2s back there but still get these misfire codes now and then. Not all the time. My tech said that if car picks up bad cat, it will shut down the entire bank of cylinders. Here's hoping.

I cleared them, but when they come back I will write um down.

If it's all four on just that one bank it could very likely be the cat as he said. I asked because I just had to deal with tracking down a stubborn misfire on my bank 7 and turned out to be an improperly seated o-ring on the injector for that cylinder . If you have access to star you could always look at the actual values from the sensors and compare them, that should put your mind to rest.
