Exclamation HELP!!! - Smoke coming from behind engine after Dyno

I just had my car dynoed at a local shop with a Mustang dyno that never dynoed an E55 before. Now after three runs, I have white smoke coming from behind the engine. Seems to be coming from transmission area. Smells like burnt rubber or burnt clutch smell. Any ideas? Turns out they did not put the car into dyno mode (I did't know about dyno mode, I do now...).

Either way, the Mustang Dyno numbers are below. Would think my numbers would be higher with the EC Tune and new CM30?

HP - 404
TQ - 465

Well, who was the shop? Maybe any fluid leaking? Well clutch and rubber smell very different was it clutch or Rubber?

if they didnt put it into dyno mode -- it was just burning up your brakes - rotors and pads.

just hope its brakes/rotors and nothing else. Need to make sure you ask all the questions before taking it to a shop to dyno.

It'll be alright. Next time, dyno mode. (lousy numbers?)

WHP was 404 @ 5634 RPM/108.4 MPH and TQ was 465 @ 3678 RPM/76.0 MPH. Don't know if I trust the numbers though. They had to turn on AWD on the Mustang Dyno for ESP to stop flashing. It appeared to mimic regular road driving since the front tires were rolling too. Don't know... More worried about the smoking coming from behind the engine, and up the sides of the car. I guess it could be oil being sprayed up onto my exhaust from the dyno belts/gears? Anyone ever experience issues after running on a dyno?

If ESP was kicking in and burning my rotors, the dash ESP light would be flashing right? It wasn't... Need to find a good Dyno Jet treadmill dyno near Philadelphia. Anyone know of a good shop that knows our cars in my area?

You might of blown your head gasket.Did you monitor your temps?im dynoing my car tom and so glad my friend let's me dyno my own car.

Park the car with newspapers under it and see if anything is leaking over night.

White smoke is coolant and if it smelt really sweet your tranny took a beating also.

Nothing leaking onto the ground at all, but I just got done taking a good look under the car... Definitely had some oily fluid from the dyno spray up onto my exhuast & front cats. After I took off the belly pans, I do see some oil on the bottom fins of my tranny, but it looks old, and minor (prob from a minor rear head gasket leak, which I confirmed). Going to see if the the smell/smoke goes away tomorrow after running it at temp for awhile.

Update: Well, after I let the oil spray from the AWD dyno burn off of my front exhaust area, the burning smell is now gone!!! No more smoking coming from behind the engine either. So be warned that on a Mustang AWD dyno (at least on this one), you should definitely put the car in Dyno mode so you don't have to run the front tires at speed to trick the ESP. That smoke scared the &^$T out of me!! Below are my new numbers from a dynojet (in dyno mode). Best Run: 452whp & 508wtq... Now that's more like it!!! Can't wait to see my gains after my EVOSport headers are installed and secondary cats are replaced with 3" x-pipe

Good to see it was nothing major.what's wrong with your mustang numbers tho?they are spot on for what a stock car should read.

Your new numbers are inflated and wanted to thank you for the dynojet comparison.

I wasn't confident about the Mustang dyno numbers since the pulls they did were in 3rd gear, and the car was not in "dyno mode". On the dynojet (same setup: K&Ns, CM30 & Box EC Tune) the pulls were in 4th gear and the car as in "dyno mode".

The numbers were SAE "corrected"

RunFile_O08.drf - 4/12/2O11 1:29:48 PM Run Type: RO Run Conditions: 65.04'F, 29.67 in-Hg, Humidity: 62%, SAE: 0.98
Max Power = 452.59 Max Torque = 508.66
baselines
RunFile-O09.dtf - 4/12/2011 1:37:08 PM Run Type: RO Run Conditions: 65.08 'F, 29.67 in-Hg, Humidity: 56%, SAE: 0.98
Max Power = 451 .22 Max Torque = 504.97
baselines

Nice results.

Only problem with load based mustang dynos is that with custom corrections they can be pretty much made to read any sort of number you want. It's hard to compare them to dynojets or any other dyno for that matter.

They only charged me a $500 deposit up front while the headers were being made. They are going to get coated this weekend, and was told they are shipping out early next week. They won't charge you the balance until they ship out your headers.

Update:

Update: Still haven't had a chance to dyno since the EvoSport header install, but my track numbers went from 12.2/3 to a best 12.0 @ 117. Haven't had the car retuned since the header install either. should be able to get some more out of her after that. Waiting to get my 172mm ASP pulley installed and a retune from EC.
