Put the hood grill cover back on and it's much quieter now. Still sounds angry though...lol.

Yea our 5.4l kompressor engines are hand assembled by minimum wage workers in Germany solely as a marketing ploy, and the guys who are hitting 10's and low 11's in their 55Ks with mostly bolt-ons just got lucky.

that makes it a race motor how?

I guess the engine in the corvette Z06 is a race motor too...and the one in the shelby GT 500, or the one in the Caddy CTSV...etc.

What race series does the M113K participate in?

If you feel you motor is excessively noisy - have it checked at a dealer that knows AMG's.

And / or have your motor mounts checked first, if bad they can make your car sound and feel rough.

Good luck and report back

Dealer want $130 just to say "it's normal"...lol.

My mounts are new.

It's lasted this long with me without issues so I don't think there is a problem...it's just really noisy.

Not to ask the obvious, but - Have you compared the engine sound to other E55's?

Unfortunately I don't know anyone else with one ( not any 55K for that matter ). I do think it's normal compared to some of the youtube video's I've seen.

As others have stated, they are indeed noisy motors. Especially as they near needing an oil change. Air pump cycle at start is a howling mess! Just give her good gas and oil and she'll keep running like a beast.

Noisy definitely. I wouldn't even want it to sound smooth ...

LOL but this is not how it is supposed to sound like. The sound is coming from the valves due to a broken valve lifter.

Noisy Engines

ILOVEAMG Holy crap Now that motor has some problems.

As for GT-ER. I Know I bring some bad news. at Times , You were very clever on your repairs to your Crank. I've been trying to put together a Pin Kit That can let you install an a extra Drive pin for the aftermarket over driven Harmonic balancers, , But the nose of the crank doesn't extend very far pass the seal. This makes it hard to drill & get in straight.

As you already know. My biggest concern is metal Particles getting back into the motor. getting suspend in the oil , embedded in the bearings & wearing off the Iron coating on the piston skirts. My guess is that you are ready for a 8 pack of new pistons. and other assorted parts! You have proven in the pass you will fix things most people give up on. March On BRO

Whenever I start mine or even open the door you can immediately start to hear the electronics. It is like a warm greeting.

It is funny and maybe even embarrassing too, most people associate Benzes with very quiet ultra silent running machines with every noise dampened. My dad who used to own an S Class that purred is convinced that something is wrong with my car and that I need to take it to the dealer to get it "looked at". He keeps pointing at the engine and the Supercharger and asking why all the noise...I chuckle.

But my engine made the same noises even before the crank problems. It hasn't really changed.

Also, wouldn't the oil filter pick up whatever metals the oil has floating in it?

I'm glad I found your thread GT-ER, I picked up a 2006 E55 a few months ago and have already had to change the S/C idler pulley and the S/C pulley bearing. Was hoping it would be less noisy after those repairs but it's still noisy as hell when I first start it up! The posts hear have helped me realize I'm probably just being paranoid. Loving this car....pulls so damn hard!

These AMG motors are angry motors. But it is this anger that makes these motors so special.

In all seriousness these are noisy motors, actually race motors that have been de-tuned for the street.
Open Block Motors are not "Race Motors" and that's what we have, and Open Block motors tend to be noisy.

By noisy I mean the engine it's self under the hood. Lifter noise and oil pump noise to be more precise.

It's the pulley bearings are bad

That's what I was told when I took it to my mechanic. It's about $500 part, right now I get ticking noise almost like its low on oil, sometimes it goes away an sometimes comes louder. It doesn't bothers me as much as thinking what ppl say when they hear it and say this is an AMG all loud.

Radio does solve the problem, but I think main problem is in the pulleys and roller tension.
