Tell me about modding your E63 please!

Hi guys. Pretty much brand new here. Proud owner of a 2008 White/Pano E63 with 65k. Just took delivery a few weeks ago. I'm loving the new ride!

I've noticed most of the motor modding 'round here is for E55's. I was hoping to hear from some E63 owners on their experience with ECU tuning, headers etc. and what kind of gains you've experienced and are the gains worth the money?

Feel free to bbq me if there's a ton of threads on this. Couldn't find any

Welcome

Cory @ Kleemann has a killer sale on headers for the 63 right now. Great gains to be had with a tune and those puppies.

What kind of gains can you get by adding the headers?

RENNtech now offers long-tube headers for the E63 and they really do wake the car up big time.

In general, mods for this platform will be expensive relative to hp gain unlike the 55k engine. The fun factor though is still a thrill

my opinion . DO the KLEEMANN manifolds Delete the cats , Tune the car and see where you are at .

The fun factor is there until stuff starts to Break !!!!!

We have the only E63 long header and mid-section available. The power and tunability on these header is unmatched in an E63. Not to mention: We Guarantee them to last a lifetime. They are Made In the USA and they are 100% Stainless steel. Here are some pics and numbers

So, I have to ask. Why did you buy and E63 then? You can mod an E55 with the E63 appearance differences.

You might check out the C63 forum as well. They seem to be the guys putting the mods to their 6.3s

Uhh that's not true at all is it? I looked at a car that had another tuner's LT headers. Wasn't the right price for me though. Really want a 212 63.

Sounds like you finally got your car back? That's great! Did you post any pics or dyno sheets? I've been off-line since I missed some days last week. Get me up to date!

I bought the car because I couldn't say no to the price compared to the 55's I was looking at. It was wayyyyyyyyy to good of a deal to pass up.

63K lease turn in, one owner, immaculate condition for under 40K. WINNING

I appreciate all the replies. Good stuff posted. I'll get my resources together and start off small engine wise. The LoMo M1 ELM and front lip get installed Monday!

E63
Good question. I looked at both the E55 and E63. The e55 did not have warranty left on it as last model was 2006. I recently got the 2009 E63 after I searched the US for the right one. I got one with a late warranty date and could not be happier. I got all the packages I wanted including the performance package. I have not modified the car but am interested in what could be done and what the benefits would be.

some dealers can give you a hard time for mods and some have had their cars "status 8" where the warranty is voided . if the main reason you purchased the car was the warranty protection i would think long and hard .

trans swaps are about 12k a clip and i heard the motor cost is almost identical to the emblem on its fenders.

I had nothing but problems from clueless techs that were quick to blame my mods for my tranny issues .

I have to say that I would avoid modding the E63 unless you have cash to burn. I pondered the same thing, but the "bang for the buck" factor is pretty low. Especially at the risk of voiding the warranty. That's just my opinion. The MBs are great, reliable cars, but when something breaks it breaks big time $$$$$.
