2014 E63s 1993 mazda rx7 on Boost
System too lean at idle bank 1 P2187

2007 E63 60k all stock with the addition of KNNs 36 miles ago.
Both stock filters are gone and just the KNNs are in now.
Can this cause engine damage? I am going on a 2,000 mile trip and if it will cause damage I will go get some dealer paper and toss those in.
I was told to remove the plastic behind the grill for better flow but that should cause more air flow and a lean condition.
Why is it only bank 1?
Does the car need a tune to fix this problem with the KNN or should I go back to paper...
I hate to see a CE light...

mine did the same i did a hyw pull to 150 with the kn filters and the same code poped up its because its too much air but i cleared it and it never came back because i haven't done any 150 pulls

+1 here , only on high MPH runs would the light come on , Bank 1 you might not of clipped the box back correctly . i had this happen . make sure they are sitting flush and the scenario is now that you are getting more air flow a ECU tune will take care of those pesky CELS

More air needs more fuel and needs more free flowing exhaust, get the equation ???? pretty simple

plug in the OBD2 scanner and check your long tern fuel trims i am sure they are at -25%. this means the ecu has maxed out its correction ability to add fuel.
FYI LTFT should be between -5% and +5% on both banks.

clear the CEL first and do a hard reset on the car but disconnecting the battery for 10 mins, it may solve for problem for the time being

which side is Bank 1

should I try reinstalling the charcoal filters wiht the KNN?
The car has not been pass 50 mph since the swap. The CE came on one cold evening at idle, shake a bit and the code came on.

Also which side is Bank 1? driver or pass....
I am going to do a hard reset and look at the fuel trim ....

What are the fuel trims before the hard reset.

air box are nice and flat on both banks

LTFT is -1.5 on bank 1&2
STFT is 2.3 on both...

The CE only is on during long idle...
I am going to start a 500+ mile trip tomorrow and then look at the data again and report back.

I will spray some gumout and see if the idle change when I hit around the air box.

after 1300 miles
LTFT B1 -9.3
B2 -7.0
Fuel Pressure is 43 at idle...
No CE light on during the trip. Do you think the ECU is not learning the new air flow..

I am thinking of going back to OEM paper filters I hate to see CE light.
