Erratic Ambient Temperature Reading

Hello Folks,

Need some help figuring out what's going with the Beast. As you can see in the photo below, the car's ambient/outside temp reading has been erratic lately. This confuses the climate control which compensates by either cooling the car too much or turning up the heat.

Anyone know what the fix is? The temp changes adjust within minutes but the climate control does not seem to notice sometimes.

Thanks...

there are two temp sensors, one in the front bumper and one in the center console, And it looks as though the one in the bumper moved and is now being heated by the engines ambient air. put the climate control into the hidden menu and and compare the two ambient temps.

Check to see if your outside temp sensor is still in the mount (just inside drivers side fog light). Mine was doing the same when I first got my car, then I started noticing it would climb when the rad fan kicked on. Somehow it had fallen out and was just sitting on the plastic splash guard under the engine...

Mine has been going crazy the other day it was reading 137 when it was maybe 80 outside. I will have to take a look at the sensor next time I am working on the car.

Pop the left foglight grille cover offf and see if the sensor is poking through the rubber grommet. If not, you'll either have to fish it out or remove the plastic underneath to find it and reinsert it.

Edit: Left as in driver side.

03'55AMG, sokarempire, izzyz28...Thanks for the excellent suggestions. I will take a look today and see if this does not correct the issue.

madmla21, I can let you know what I find if you like. Actually, will just post it here.

Here's the culprit...Had to get it with a hanger as it was hiding quite nicely in the dark.

Obrigado!

Glad that it was a somewhat easy fix, assuming you already popped it back in and got steady readings, that is.
