Man that 550 is looking better all the time for a little econo rocket. With exhaust, tune, intake and cooling mods, she will be easy over 600hp!!

I still don't understand why they rate two different power ratings for the 63 TT tuning package: 584 hp for the regular AMG and 620 hp for cars with the performance package. I would've thought they would bring up both cars to the power level

I honestly have no idea so don't quote me, but it probably has something to do with a less restrictive exhaust or headers or something, otherwise yes they should be the same number. There has to be a physical variable that is either present or not present in the two different cars. Could also be a different intake or something (one is more restrictive etc)

So how are some of you guys that are tuned/modded going to hold up with these newer cars performance wise? For a guy that has a stock car like me is it worth investing into mods to keep up or is there no way our cars will be able to compete with these more effiecent/powerful turbo cars?

That is just the same as the E55 compared to the SL55, same everything except t/b and maybe de-tuned slightly. You better believe it has to do with making more COIN in the long run for the manufacturer.
I bet you once the aftermarket gets hold of the two cars, they will be making the same power.

The difference in peak hp is also very strange to me.
There has been absolutely no mention from AMG that there are any hardware differnces between the regular cars and the performance pack cars - just ECU.
My hunch is that AMG simply tweaked certain parameters in the ECU that the aftermarket has not (or may not be able to) monkey with. Something like direct injection control or specific cam tuning.
It appears AMG has really targeted the sales they were losing to the aftermarket. Focusing on making the available upgrades really attractive. OEM quality r&d, fit & finish on things like CF add ons, suspension, wheels and of course performance.
I am sure more info will come to light as these cars are more heavily modded. I hope, because after seeing the 2012 E63 at the New York Auto Show...with all it's bi-turbo glory and sweet new features...I have decided I MUST have one Even started a savings account for (HOPEFULLY) this time next year. A TT 5.5 is definitely in my future...whether CLS or E!!!!

To clarify I was referring specifically to the 2012 E63.
The only info officially released is on the Private Lounge which says that the performance pack upgrade for that car is primarily an increase in boost.
Can't wait until more info comes to light!

can't wait to tune my awaited CLS63 TT that will reach on Aug this year.
i am thinking a down-pipe catless and i tune. expected to reach more than 650hp and 1100NM.
EDIT:
checked their web site. they make it 620hp with or without Performance Package.
so it is like before. LOL
no one will buy PP now

the E550 will not have MCT gear. it will have the normal 7G. which i think can't handle too much power or TQ.
