Thats it, WRECKLESS DRIVING??
So today, I was cruising around, and even did a few burnouts here or there. Then I was going about 40mph and there was a 90* turn coming up, but not too sharp, And i have safely taken it at 30 so i figured what the hell, and gave it a lill more gas. Took the turn at 42 mph, and car stayed planted firmly, just a little bit of squealing from the tires. anyways, Went home afterwards and about 20 minutes ago, A cop is knocking on my door. I figured he was only asking things door to door, because Why would he be here for speeding when the very corner I took was a 35 MPH zone about 100 feet after the bend. he then introduces himself, and then he asks me if I owned a black Mercedes Benz, And then proceeds to tell me (after I admitted to owning it and being a little naughty) that someone called in a complaint of wreckless driving, even got my plate #. He was very nice though, because thankfully after 10-15 minutes chatting and him running my name etc.. he decided to let me off with a warning to "kick off the summer". BUT: heres the thing, How is taking a corner fast considered wreckless? The only thing i was guilty of was speeding, and exhibition of speed, both of which were not brought up by him. Am I wrong to assume I was not being wreck less?

The person who called it in probably broke the law by calling it in with their cellphone in hand. It was likely some sore old loser nanny-man in their S500 jealous of the faster sportier E55.

If its not a normal driving behavior it can be anything from wreckless driving, careless driving, driving without due and care, driving without consideration of others and so on, depends on where you live, and on the cops I guess.

Here's the thing---people can call and report other motorists for anything. Happens all the time with motorcycles. You have to be extra careful out there these days with that stuff. People will call the cops on you and they will show up at your door. I tell my riding parters this all the time when they are acting like tools in traffic popping wheelies and hitting Mach 1 down the interstate. A simple phone call from a pissed off motorist can land you a ticket...I've known this to happen A LOT in Maryland.

I would have denied everything. Never admit anything, ever. That's what lawyers are for. I would have not answered the door to any police office of any sort. I would have told him to call my phone without opening the door. Cops can read your expressions face to face, but not really over the phone.
Basically in that situation they have to prove it. Heresy doesn't mean shiat.
Next time, I'd tell him to pound sand.
And you chatting with him didn't get you off of anything. He didn't see you do anything. And he knew that giving you a ticket would not hold up in any court.
Again, never admit anything. No matter what. Remember, everything you say can and will be used against you.

I agree with outrun.
Some people will call in for the dumbest things. If you were going 60 in a 25 zone then I would understand, but your story is far from reckless driving.

Cops cant do this in Cali -- they need to observe you doing it -- or on video- via red light cameras ---
wreckless driving is also a judgement call by the officer. I would imagine in those other states -- it would be easy to challenge a ticket that is issued when the infraction was caused outside of the officer's presence.
I would seriously laugh at an officer if he came knocking on my door with that dumb story -

ok, I am glad I am not the only that feels like this is bull Sh.t.. There was only one car in sight and there were people cutting their lawn, so most likely the guy is his car, just a Kia. I will take pics of the corner too, almost HAVE to go out of the way to get to it. or maybe get a more complicated plate #... how hard is this to remember??

Taking a 90 degree turn at 42mph on a public road is not only reckless but idiotic. You asked so there's my opinion. Sounds like it may have been a semi-residential area too...since you made at 30mph the first time and 40mph this time, let us know how 50 goes. Smh.

Well, I guess its because they had no proof. And, as a matter of fact, I may try 50mph next time.. maybe. lol, I can see it now. new thread; HELP, took out 3 mailboxes and smoked 3 wheels going 50 around a bend!! lmao

A night in the slammer might knock some sense (mechanical prowess notwithstanding) into you.
You’re already picking up the tab for your “home,” transportation, and living expenses, yes?
That same tomfoolery around my neighborhood might get you a 4x4 upside the head.

But to OP. Yes been there done that, move on. Happens in life and maybe owning a nice machine on the road you tend to get some bad apples sometimes. My buddy gets a "monthly"-exaggerated- notice of his GT3RS being too "loud" and driving "recklessly" when he's just down shifting, even though he's trying to keep that thing as quiet as he can around people and traffic.

No.
Even if a police officer was dumb enough to do this, it wouldn't last 2 seconds at a trial, the police officer must physically witness it, otherwise purely hearsay.

Most of us try to do "wreckless" driving. That means we don't crash our cars up when we drive them. Probably even more of us don't try to drive "recklessly", so as not to endanger other drivers and pedestrians.

LOL... I was going to say, "hey, you were lucky it was wreckless... not everyone has been as lucky when taking a 90* turn at 40+ in a residential area" but I then realized way too few would even understand...

As far as the reckless driving, I was 19 and got a speed racing ticket when I was neither speeding nor racing (I was the only car in a residential neighborhood with speed bumps). I took it to court and the cop admitted I wasn't speeding nor racing, I still got the ticket. It's all up to the judge and if you get a pri*k judge then you are FU*CKED. I lost all faith in the justice system that day

Can't stand it any more... RECKless driving. No 'W'.
HS dropouts.
This word has nothing to do with creating the potential for a wreck. Rather it involves not reckoning carefully all the hazards involved in an action. The correct spelling is therefore “reckless.”

+1, a cop can't just go off what other people say. If this was the case then you could call the cops on anyone you didn't like saying they were doing 100+ mph in a 25 MPH zone and get them thrown in jail.

Just do what our elected officials do. "That may or may not be me in the account you are talking about! Now excuse me officer, you are playing politics here and I am trying to get back to the business of running this country" Then just slam the door on him.

Investigator 1 - "Hey, what does this look like to you?"
Investigator 2 - "Looks like weiner to me."
Investigator 1 - "Agreed. Hey, Weiner, get over here - is this you?"
Weiner - "Um... maybe?"
Investigator 1 - "Well, he sure thinks it's you."
Investigator 2 - "I said, it looks like weiner."
Investigator 1 - "See?"
Weiner (cracks) - "Alright, alright - I did it! Don't know how you found me out..."

Not a high-school drop out or anything, just to damn lazy to check spelling and grammar. Every body does it, two, too, to, or even their, there, or they're.
