SPEEDRIVEN | E55 Twin-turbo PKG (feeler)

Pulling the SC is the right idea for optimal efficiency. Most people who hunger for more power on these boards probably have already invested in pulleys and cooling upgrades. It would be better and easier to go incremental on that than throw a bunch of stuff away and start over.
For turbos Garrett GT series are awesome! Don't overlook the nice Tial machined exhaust housings .. they save a lot of space! Looks pretty packed in there already!
I am not familiar with all the details of the 550 motor but I would target those guys first and leverage over if possible. None of my cars were built for boost but the stock motors last a long time if boosted properly.

I find my 5 speed much smoother when I regularly service it!
We all wish the project well. It was interesting to see the information shared.
I drove my MB Dealers CL63TT the other day, he gave it to me for 5 days, it's dreadfully fast & fabulously smooth, but lacks that low end grunt of the 55K motors.
All that they achieved over the 55K's are really that nice and very quick 7DCT shifter. I will take delivery of my CL63TT by late September.
So at the end of the day, let's all remember that the 55K engine was born from AMG & Mclaren. Mercedes Benz, naturally just being the Parent company.
So it's a throughbred, racing engine.
I would welcome and import a bullet-proof Twin-turbo PKG, if all goes well.
Best of Luck.

... The answer may be there ... although chances are slim. If not, some nice schedule 40 tubular manifolds would be just the ticket
... if not then use stock manifolds and cut the cats off for space for turbos
... I've done that on other cars!Last edited by turbo97se; Jul 4, 2011 at 06:04 AM.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Sorry - I am ignorant about this -- never had an American car.
im surpised the boys in the middle east havent tried this yet , these guys got it to burn .

some of them went into replacing with SLR engine and modding it.
i know a couple who also installed modded 55k engine on SLKs and CLKs.

i <3 my twins. If you're engineering this for the E55, I'd consider designing the system to retain the SC. You can go with bigger turbos in the kit without having to worry about lag. Compound boost is where it's at. Low end SC power, top end turbo power.

I'm a journal bearing turbo guy myself. Ball bearing setups always seem to be too sensitive to oil pressure and how it drains out of the turbo. Had the same turbos on my 350Z since 2007. Many of my fellow Z members with ball bearing kits haven't shared the same success. Just my $.02
