Why did this thread turn into a pissing match ? That stinks.... but on another note marcin I can lend you my car for fitment purposes for the winter as i already am planning on pulling the manifolds off for a project. Ian and I can also aid in dissassembly assembly of aforementioned kit!

I thought of doing this to my own E55. I have turboed most cars I have owned. Maxima, Lexus IS300, BMW M3 are some of the ones I have gone more extreme on. I bought the E55 because it was fast enough stock (for a while) and my turbo projects have all been custom projects. It takes a long time to get get a kit like this together ... trust me! 6-8 weeks I think is very optimistic. I think it is a good idea but like others have said it will be a limited market here. Easier to do pulley and cooling upgrades. A lot of time needs to be put into tuning. I am still trying to figure it out for my M3 and it's been done for months!

Pulling the SC is the right idea for optimal efficiency. Most people who hunger for more power on these boards probably have already invested in pulleys and cooling upgrades. It would be better and easier to go incremental on that than throw a bunch of stuff away and start over.

For turbos Garrett GT series are awesome! Don't overlook the nice Tial machined exhaust housings .. they save a lot of space! Looks pretty packed in there already!

I am not familiar with all the details of the 550 motor but I would target those guys first and leverage over if possible. None of my cars were built for boost but the stock motors last a long time if boosted properly.

I'm going to build a twin setup for mine next year, but I'm going to replace both mufflers with turbo's and keep the SC. I'm considering under driving it to keep it as efficient as possible. I Agree with turbo97se 6-8 weeks would be amazingly fast and if you include a setup that removes the SC and puts the turbo's under the hood I'd think it would be impossible in that time frame. That being said I certainly wish you guys the best of luck and if you take the project on, I'll be rooting for you all the way.

Both my SO who has attended driving school and I had the same reaction to the CLS63TT when we drove on the track with an AMG instructor.

I find my 5 speed much smoother when I regularly service it!

We all wish the project well. It was interesting to see the information shared.

I drove my MB Dealers CL63TT the other day, he gave it to me for 5 days, it's dreadfully fast & fabulously smooth, but lacks that low end grunt of the 55K motors.

All that they achieved over the 55K's are really that nice and very quick 7DCT shifter. I will take delivery of my CL63TT by late September.

So at the end of the day, let's all remember that the 55K engine was born from AMG & Mclaren. Mercedes Benz, naturally just being the Parent company.
So it's a throughbred, racing engine.

I would welcome and import a bullet-proof Twin-turbo PKG, if all goes well.

Best of Luck.

Hmm ... I wonder how much different the heads are on the new M157 twin turbo engines? They are derived from M273 which is derived from M113 ... you'd probably have a better idea than many here ... The answer may be there ... although chances are slim.

If not, some nice schedule 40 tubular manifolds would be just the ticket ... if not then use stock manifolds and cut the cats off for space for turbos ... I've done that on other cars!

Here is your update. Probably won't happen other than a one off on someones car, but kits readily available to order doubtful.

We have a local car that will be stopping by once a turbo shows up from Tial. That will let us take some measurments and figure out how complicated it will be. Not making any promises but we are deffinetly looking into it.

Any updates on this? I'm contemplating whether to buy a bunch of s/c upgrades or wait and see how this kit performs. Keep up the good work guys!

Exactly !!! those mustangs with wipple superchargers are WHP monsters -- why cant we do that? Is the wipple that awesome?

Sorry - I am ignorant about this -- never had an American car.

Seems like a 5-7000 kit like that would be a huge seller. And you could continue to use headers and lower pulleys that many already have purchased.

Ironically.....if someone had put up the test car and the $$$$ when this thread started we'd be at the 6-week mark right about now.....

Just sayin'.....

The 63 supercharger kit is much higher. A kit under 10 would sell. Do it!!!

The whipple is just a lysholm supercharger like the one we have...what would help is simply putting a larger charger like a 3.6L. That would be insane...lol.

some of them went into replacing with SLR engine and modding it.

i know a couple who also installed modded 55k engine on SLKs and CLKs.

Ali where do they get those SLR engines, do they take them out of SLRs or custom order from Mercedes?

Selling my racecar to get something more practical for the family (looking at W211 E55s) and I end up in this thread. lol. figures.

i <3 my twins. If you're engineering this for the E55, I'd consider designing the system to retain the SC. You can go with bigger turbos in the kit without having to worry about lag. Compound boost is where it's at. Low end SC power, top end turbo power.

I'm a journal bearing turbo guy myself. Ball bearing setups always seem to be too sensitive to oil pressure and how it drains out of the turbo. Had the same turbos on my 350Z since 2007. Many of my fellow Z members with ball bearing kits haven't shared the same success. Just my $.02
