IPOD Adaptor

If anyone could direct me to get an IPOD adapor for a CLS55. Car currently does not have one and didn't come with one.

Not sure if the ebay ones will work. Trying to keep it affordable.

thanks

If your car has Command there is a 3.5mm input jack in the glove compartment.

Or this,

I just rerouted the glove box (other years are different) aux input to the center console. it is just easier to operate the iphone directly vs the clunky steering wheels controls IMO.

Except one if $800+ and the other $100. For $800 i would rather get an aftermarket head unit with rear view camera, bluetooth, far better nav with traffic, etc. I'm not knocking anything, just at $800, other options open up.

The iTronic iPod Audio is $549, not $800 - and in your car, to change the head unit is quite the task. You have to replace the head unit, put in a Canbus controller, rewire the car, put in a new amp and forgo any future diagnostics on the MOST bus. It typically ends up being a $3000 project with only modest components.

Wiring isn't that hard on the OEM and if you can buy one for under $140 price isn't that bad either. Cartronics kit is nice as well. Don't you lose your changer with the Cartronics kit? And its 5X's the price.

you do turn off the changer on our kit (however, in the industry a CD is considered an antique, and you ALWAYS retain the single cd. If you have an iPod, why would you need a changer?) - BUT you gain FULL control over the iPod on the radio. You are able to easier navigate it, and see much more information. It is also full digital as well. The factory kit really just uses the Aux In port.

While a fully integrated setup is nice, the problem is the OEM sterring wheels controls on the E55 is just flat cumbersome to use. This is no Lexus or Acura. It is just so much easier to grab the Ipod and make whatever adjustments with it vs the clunky steering buttons IMO.

Not concerned so much with changer as I never use CDs anymore- who does and why would you if you have an Ipod.

And head units have been done, just again, you lose the steering wheel controls except for volume which again I could live with for reasons above.

Guess it all depends on what someone is looking for. The cartronics unit appears nice and OEM, but that is some coin just to see text on the nav screen and use the steering wheel controls.

IPods and such are low resolution convenience devices only.

They do not provide the music quality of a CD,let alone a DVD A that modern car systems are set up for.

You need a disk changer because the music coming from an Ipod is low bandwidth crap. An ipod emits AM radio music versus uncompressed FM.

It is the difference between ChateauMargaux and Thunderbird. We dinosaurs prefer the Bordeaux properly decanted.

That depends entirely on the quality of the MP3's you're using and how you're getting the information to the car. If you're using the headphone jack, I'd agree with you.

98% of the music on my actual iPod is apple lossless, which as I'm sure you know is at least CD quality.

But yes for the majority of people I would say they just use lossy mp3s, but to them it sounds great, and probably wouldn't notice the difference between a lossless file, especially on the stock harmon kardon!!

The answer is 'depends' - since this covers several years, the latest adapters changed to 5v charging. We have an attachment that will even allow the older 12v iPod units charge.

The Cartronics units ALL charge, no matter what.

I have an 04 if that helps and my adapter does not charge or let me change songs on my iPhone. Only through the wheel/ information center and I can only change the song one by one

That is correct. We can get it to charge, but to gain control through the radio would require an iTronic

I saw that on your site. Most def going to buy the charger! I'm going to have my car connected to STAR today, I'll check a few of the settings for it because the ipod is not working correctly.
