CM-30 Removal and Meziere Install
Decided to install a Meziere pump since the CM-30 doesn't appear to be enough for this 185 pulley. I've got the IC loop apart now and am getting ready to install the pump.
I emptied a bit of the coolant into a clean white bucket and noticed what appears to be some small black rubber/plastic bits floating in the coolant. Prior to the CM-30 install I hadn't noticed these. Then I recall Chawkins' build thread and his issues with the trunk tank and CM-30 pump problems. In that thread he mentions also seeing black filings that had blocked 80% of the screen in the trunk tank from the return line.
The only thing that would make sense to me is that the CM-30, for whatever reason, is shedding these bits, and potentially causing partial blockage in the loop. If anyone else can shed light on this please help!
I'm curious to know if anyone else has experienced this, and if so, have you noticed an increase in IAT's as a result?

I suppose that's possible when I installed the H/E as I did not fill the H/E with coolant prior to installation, though I did top off the reservoir prior to turning on the pump.
This time I simply pinched the lines and swapped pumps.

Interested to see if you see any NOTICEABLE difference and not something less than 10* that could just be from any number of variables. Did you happen to run any logs of IATs before taking the car apart to see what you were seeing at this time and outside temps?

I paid 200 for the pump, another 50 or so for the fittings I wanted. I datalog often, though I haven't ran the car since I swapped out the pump. Will probably log a bit tomorrow and share the results.

IAT's are looking much better. Ambient temps were close to what they were at the track; between 78-82F. I ran the engine up to operating temperature and then made three 60-120 passes, allowing temps to drop to about 10-15 above ambient between each pass; IAT's topped out at 155F, lowest was 151F.
Then took three 0-120 passes following the same methodology, temps topped out at 168F, lowest was 164.
Can't wait to see what a trunk tank with some ice will do

I found this post interesting. First it is incredible that his ignition timing tripled with the cooler IATs, but then more interesting is how he experienced increased temps with the install of a Meziere pump and then after reinstalling stock pump the temps went down again. Hmm... I wonder if this is strictly related to not having a "larger" heat exchanger and instead running a 2nd stock one from an SL? But then Loco said he believes the Meziere was hurting him too while others said the opposite haha. Crazy how there are multiple people with different results. I also know I need to get meth injection in this thing stat!

If the new pump pushes the coolant too fast for the intercooler to do it's job, wouldn't this mod...the container in the trunk be just fine with a stock(ish) pump?
Does this sound correct?
You're adding more coolant to the system, and with a slower (stock) pump, the outside air may cool it even more on the way there and back from the tank to the pump?
