Question Need some mod advise for my 07 E63

Just picked up a 07 E63 with P1/P2 package and I would like to do just a few mods to pep it up a bit.Can you guys chime in on the good and the bad?

I was thinking of doing exhaust cut outs before the pre-cats and resonators.Or, just straight pipe that section to remove the pre-cats and resonators? I searched a few threads but I see some mention about doing a X-Pipe.Is it really worth it for the gain? Please comment on what you think and please reccomend some brands or routes to take.

As far as an intake goes for these I think most of my searches revealed that it is best to just remove the charcoal canistors only?Do any of you also put some high flow filters in like K&N for a lil help with breathing?

With any of these mods is a flash needed since the intake and exhaust can breath a lil better? If so which company are you guys dealing with most? I am located in Central NJ if that helps pointing me to any local shops.

Ride height? I see there is a lowering module for these but they are very pricey for me.I heard of a trick to use some washers as spacers in the suspension that will trick the car to ride almost a inch lower? I would love to be able to use the button on the console to raise it up at any given time needed and to slam it while parked would be a plus but not needed.

Lastly, My stock wheels are a lil beat up and possibly have a few bends on the insides and would like to see where people are buying the OEM style replacements or good replicas at? It would be nice if they could be found in 19" over the stock 18"s but again, not needed. At worse case I will scoop a set of those deep concave Vossen 5 star types as they look good and dont cost mega bucks.

Wheel Alignment: How should this car be aligned? I will most likely use it in Sport Mode and be heavy footed so I guess it will "Squat "alot.Should it be aligned in Sport mode? What should I mention to the tech doing the alignment?

Please discuss and point me in the right direction if possible. The searches never end and one can get confused or misled easy.TIA

I'll let the experts chime in here (I'm not)...but from what I have been told modding the E63 is expensive. Adding 10 to 15 HP would probably be in the $3K to $5K range if not more. It's not like a Camaro where you can slap on a K&N filter. For now I am hanging back. I found the same thing with my BMW M3...$4K from Dinan and not a whole lot to show for it.

But the experts here can direct you....but like most cars it's always going to come down to the basics: intake, ECU, and exhaust. The cost? Well, it's expensive.

1. Resonator Delete (Straight or X Pipe) ) if any performance gain without a tune, does sound MUCH MUCH better. ($150)

2. Remove Charcoal Filter and add K&N filters $100 (Gain 0 but it feels more responsive)

3. Sprint Booster ($200 Used / $300 New) Worth EVERY PENNY! Improves throttle response and the car drives like a Raped Ape!

4. Tune Custom (I do not like canned tunes) Cost anywhere from $1200 to $4k for Renntech, Good for 15 to 20 RWHP and RWTQ depends on when tune comes into play and if you have K&N and Resonator Delete could bump results slightly.

5. Renntech Airbox good for 10/10 RWHP RWTQ cost New $2800 / Used $1500 or so

5. Shorty headers $1000 for Kleeman (20/20 RWTQ RWHP) Wait for Longtubes 40/40 but they cost over $5k right now

Also Tranny is only good for up to 550HP Renntech for $4k will increase the power handling to 800hp and 1000TQ

Raising and lowering of the Car can be done with STAR. You can program the new ride height and be able to use the buttons to raise and slam your car as you please if you dont want to spend Renntech money for the kit.

Alignment is done by Mercedes Only and requires a special tool for the AMG cars. Align it in the setting you drive most in, lowering the car will only change the tire wear as I have noticed. Alignment runs about $200

No offense, but only the RennTech airbox has any proven gains. The Carbonio is just for looks.

These Carbonio air boxes are modified from their original design, which is similar to how I modify the stock air boxes and those have real world proven results. (2) C63's with the same tune with the only difference being the TTM air box mod on stock air boxes and guess what happened multiple times? The TTM air box car decisively won and the other driver was ~80lbs lighter too!

So basically, the Carbonio boxes are the same as the standard boxes (but in CF), and then you modify them to flow better.

They do have slightly more volume but they are very close to stock size. Also, when you are going full throttle, the top of Carbonio boxes actually get sucked down.

I take it that's a bad thing...

Any of the increase in volume with the slightly larger boxes is mitigated by the collapsing top! That is why. like you said, it is more for looks and not functionality!
