How do you know when you need new rotors?

Im getting really close to needing to change my brake pads... but I was wondering.. how do you know if the rotors have to be changed too? I don't want to change them unless its need it..

MB states to change the rotors with every pad change, I do believe. On a vehicle with conventional brakes, you'd feel pulsing in the brake pedal when your rotors are warped. However, due to the nature of the SBC system, the mechanical feedback is not present.

You can always take a micrometer to the rotors, to gauge the thickness. Measure that against what MB states is minimum.

Measure runout, thickness, and check for grooves or scoring. If you have runout, the rotor is 99% NOT warped. It's just deposits on the rotor. Either way, you can have the rotors machined as long as you're not below the minimum thickness specified by MB.

Mine had cracks coming out of most of the holes and had grooves as well. That was a pretty good sign that they needed replaced.

Mine have grooves, cracks, and a decent lip on the outer edge. Can I assume it needs to be replaced? LOL.

I'm waiting for my next pad change.

The minimum thickness spec is normally stamped onto the outward lip of a brake disc. Find it, read it, and if your disc's wear surfaces are at or below the minimum specified thickness, replace the disc. If the disc isn't below minimum thickness, then there's no need to replace it unless there are serious runout issues or cracking issues.

Surprisingly my fronts have no grooves or hot spots I can see but the pads are near the end.My rears both have some grooves and hot spots in them as the previous owner probably did some burnouts while holding the brake to hard? As far as the fronts go should they be cut or just add new pads?Maybe a like sanding to remove some glazing?

What can we use as a cheap replacements,EVOsports?

Cracks coming from the holes are not a problem until they connect with cracks from other holes...Then you need to dump them...

yup all the cross drilled rotors I've used in the past have had minor cracks, it's normal.
