Engine just stopped dead today...
Folks,
I was out today driving for a while in the searing heat (outside teperature indicated 100+) with some heavy idle time. I mean it was brutal out there.
Right on the last part of the trip back to the house the car just died while doing about 15 MPH. The engine just stopped with all the indicator lights on the dash coming on, like you get before you start it (with the key in the "run" position before you move to "start"). It was as if I just turned off the fuel pump or shorted the ignition out.
So I pull over and turn it off and go for a re-start and it runs. I get back to the house and shut down and re-start again with no issues.
There is no CEL or Malfunction indicated. The car (E55) is a 2005 with just 17,000 miles. It has been running like a swiss watch.
Could the heat have caused something like this? A weak component somewhere?

I was thinking CPS as well...
The alternator could be a possibility too...
The car is an 05 E55 with just 17K on the clock.
I am going to take it out again today to see if it misbehaves...

I checked the battery...
OK Gents,
I checked the battery and tightened all the connections in the trunk area, and I took a good look under the hood with nothing amiss. Then I took her for a ride with no issues.
From all the posts I have read, the CPS would be the first guess, lacking any CEL or codes.
If the DIY's I see posted are accurate, it seems like a fairly easy repair once you get access. I will need the part (AutohausAZ) and the correct TORX socket (Sears).
Is there anything to watch out for?

I never got any codes when mine went out. I will tell you that when removing the bolt, it helps to remove it 1/2 to 3/4 of the way, then pull the CPS out as far as you can to "capture" the bolt so you don't drop it. Then unscrew it the rest of the way and pull the CPS/bolt out otgether. You may need a pair of needle nose pliers to grab the CPS and get it moving, tends to get kind of stuck in there.
