Even back in the day, when the first E55 owners (well to do bunch) tried this only 2 people went with the SLR coolers cause it just cost too much. Now we have 2nd & 3rd owners and I don't think many are up for a mod that could cost as much as the SLR coolers did "back in the day". And I think there were at least 6 attempts to knock off the SLR coolers, most ended up as one offs. Now if Brad can get his cooler to market at a price point at or below dealer cost on the SLR cooler, it will be a winner (and he knows it).
You hit the nail on the head , the real issue for us is "PRICE" if its $2,500 to $5,000 that's one thing , it will be doable ,over that ,,, people won't buy too much for the aveage guy. so it would really won't be profitable ,, The profit is in volume , higher the sales volume the lower the cost to manufacture and re-coped cost and R&D . Price point will have to be lower than 10k or even 8k, most 55k platforms are selling for 20 to 40 grand. I don't see many guys spending 1/3 the price of their car on one mod, even if it is the holy grail SLR intercoolers.

Anyway good job on the project Brad, its great that you guys havnt forgotten about the little guys. Most tuners wouldn't see a market let alone waste R&D on the 55k. Intercoolers look sick

I'll be honest, even though I absolutely LOVE this idea...I can't see myself paying more than $3000 for such a setup and I know that it's going to be more than $3K. I can only see this mod as a last resort for top dogs wanting every last horsepower out of their stock supercharger.

There is no doubt that cost is a factor. For me, cost is 1/2 of the factor. The other 1/2 depends on the stats, pros and cons of the product, comparison to other mods and how it meshes with other mods that I already have. If it meshes with the other mods that I already have, then that is a big plus. If I have to remove some of my existing mods, then that is a factor that I have to think about along with the price. However, this product certainly has my full attention.

W215 V12TT Build by Speedriven, W221 S550 4Matic
This just happened when SPEEDRIVEN is working on a TT for the 55k? I love this idea and bringing the blower to its fullest potential but if I was to spend some money I rather add a little extra and twin turbo my car.

Good Luck with the product if it is affordable I think it will be a huge success

The only mod one would have to remove in order to install the TMC would be a CF Airbox. Evosport would also have to re-tune it. Other than that, the more mods you have the more power you should see.

Looks like a nice little setup and I am surprised something like this wasn't been done sooner when all honesty it isn't very complex if fabricated (a little different to have a casting done like this though obviously), I am definitely interested. I just can't imagine it will be priced reasonable enough to sell volume. It would be something I will spend money on but I figure there is no way it will be reasonable since it will probably be in the price range of what people pay for a full stage 3 setup (tune, pulley, pump, heat exchanger, headers) using the $2500 for the heat exchanger/pump/resevoir cooling kit Evosport sells. So with the unforunate Mercedes tax on something another company isn't offering I bet the price will be at least double that cooling kit cost. For the majority of today's owners it could be a huge success if the pricing is actually reasonable for some intercoolers but when more and more are running meth injection these days for $400-500 I just see it very tough to sell it to more than a small group willing to shell out that kind of money for intercoolers to keep the temps down instead.

Why not have a bigger S/C made?that is our problem.A 3.6 whipple on our cars would make close to 600whp and not even be out of its efficiency range.

I think the market of 55 engines may be too small, and based on the price of the 63 SC ($20K), it may not be worth the R&D.

I tried that and was turned down twice due to no market and unknown territory. Even Weistec said not at this time. There has to be a way though..

I almost purchased an SLR S/C for 18K!

But, isn't the SLR SC the same as ours?

Negative, it's slightly different and has a different gear ratio. The SLR 722 GT produces 1.75 bar (25.38 psi) boost!
Our blower could never do that and if it could, it wouldn't be efficient.

Since I can't get my hands on a bigger blower I decided to increase my compression to 9.5:1 in conjunction with evosport's new 178mm crank pulley. We'll see what happens...

The TMC should change boost slightly and might be another reason why the SLR has more boost.

I am pretty sure despite the the inner gear being different, the displacement and rotor config is the same. The means wether you spin it faster with a smaller gear, of pulley the size of saturn, the efficiency is the same. The top mount IC is what allows it to make more boost, and still be reasonable.

Anyhow, back to these TMIC's, honestly the R&D for this stuff is not hundreds of thousands. Especially if done mostly in CAD. These companies should realize you are better off selling 10 @ 3K than 2 @ 15k. Its a lesson that alot of these high end tuners don;t get...

Unfortunately what most customers don't get is that small businesses must get their return back asap. To sell 2 for $30K in the next month is for better than selling 10 for $30K in the next 8 months. When people win the lottery most choose the cash now option compared to long term small payments. Just saying..

intercooler & supercharger

I agree if the intercooler are reasonable , a lot of people will buy them they'll make plenty of money ,,, also a Kenny Bell larger supercharger conversion 3.2 would be great somebody needs to work on that ,, and the ECU software that will make tons of POWER.. they would sell plenty of them too . Bad m

2 totaling $30K and 10 totaling $30K. My point is that it's the same total amount and I'm not sure what lesson KLR CLS is talking about??

None fast enough!
Monday check in...

Again, thanks for all the kind words. We are really happy with this and the continued development. I will have some updated pics this week.

Again, I would ask people to please hold the discussion on price. Price is going to be driven by the cost to manufacture, the cost of R&D and the requisite margin we need to see on any product. These amounts are not determined yet!

Thanks
Brad
