Exclamation Service Brake! Visit workshop!

Recently I had the flag of brake service on my car, I ignored it for a while since the brakes were ok. Then I replaced all brake pads and sensors but the message is still on

"Service Brake! Visit workshop!"

Can someone tell me what to do to take this message off?

check if all the sensors are pluged in tight. the message should go away after new sensors are used

The drivers front and passenger rear pads, have brake pad sensors. These sensors tell the drivers that the pads are near their life span, and need replacing. When the pads and sensors are replaced the idiot warning should go away, if not take it into a shop, and have them clear the code.

If it were the sensors the car would say "brake wear" or something like that. I had that same message in my car and it ended up being the brake pressure reservoir. It's a $400+ part ( looks like a black light bulb in the back of the SBC module ) and is easy to replace but you need an SDS to clear the code afterwards.

Regardless, you need an SDS to see what codes the SBC gives you before doing anything.

You wouldn't happen to have the part number? I'm getting the same error and I cant find this part online.

Star is telling me my pressure reservoir needs to be replaced. If I clear the code it comes back right away.

I would also check the switch under the dash. On my CLS with SBC, I went through changing the pads/sensors and rotors to find out it was a $12 "stop light" switch under the dash that I replaced myself in less than 5 minutes. Part number for my CLS was A0015454009. It may be the same for an E-Class with SBC, but verify first. It's very cheap to try.

when you had the bad switch, did your brake lights work (get brighter when you pushed the pedal)? i have the same error in my dash but when i push the brake pedal the brake lights work.

Have a strong feeling its the SBC pump. Had the same warning light. Took it to the dealer where my buddy works. He said it needed software update, or he could make it fail. I opt for the latter. New SBC pump, resevoir and fluid. Zero dollars. The SBC is warrantied for 10 years by Mercedes.

I have the same message. Replaced pads and sensors. No error codes after running STAR? I am leaning toward just replacing the brake switch since it is cheap and known to fail.
Any other trouble shooting I should do?
Thanks

I replaced the stop switch, but the service BRAKE
is still on. Does the code have to be cleared
with the computer or is it suppose to correct
itself automatically (which means I have a pressure
reservoir problem).

You need an SDS. I can almost guarantee there is a problem with SBC. If it was a pad wear issue, the message would read "Brake wear visit workshop". If it was a stop lamp switch issue, you would be getting ESP codes, no codes/messages at all, or the brake lights would be on at all times, or not come on at all.

Why not take it into a dealership, have them pull the codes and properly diagnose the car instead of just throwing parts at it, then coming back here to ask whats wrong?

Message said "BRAKE visit workshop". I took it to a indy and his lap top showed faulty break reservoir. Tried the stop switch replacement first hoping spending $30 could save me the $900, plus labor to replace the high pressure reservoir. I think I will take to indy and see of he can clear the message and see if message comes back.

If its the pressure reservoir then the code will not clear until it is repaired. It will keep returning immediately. This is why it needs to be taken to a shop, preferably a Mercedes dealership. I can't tell you how many times I've replaced a pressure reservoir for that exact code, only to have the code remain, in which case the entire SBC unit needs to be replaced, which IS a warrant-able repair, provided you are within your SBC warranty.

You may spend the $900 you were quoted and all is well and you're out $900 with a repaired car, or it ends up needing the entire unit, and you come out spending $0 and get a new SBC unit and a renewed 10 year/unlim. warranty.

This is correct. These SBC units have service life span after which the message will come up also. There is an SBC counter that can be reset by DAS ... although I don't know how to do it.

Any vehicle under 10 years old is under warranty as this guy pointed out. The SBC can often fail after updates to SBC SW (is what I was told)

Hi Guys,

I got the following SBC fault code: C249F -A7/3

I tried to reset but my SBC unit was too hot at the time (>80C). My Pads, Rotors and sensors are like new, I replaced them in the spring. I'll be going in for alignment next week and wanted to get an idea of what to expect from that code. Most likely I'll be doing the service myself.

Thanks

if your car is the one in your sig, then drop it off at the dealer and pick it up when its done. it should be covered under warranty.

Mines getting dropped off on Saturday for same thing. SDS says something about Maximum cycles exceed which tells me its the timer on the SBC pump.

I have heard people say its covered for 10 years but the recall does not expire.

http://www.startekinfo.com/StarTek/o...stedDocId=6715

Will see what they say on mine. Fingers crossed
