For those running a 180, is a HE and pump enough cooling?
I am wondering if an aftermarket HE and pump is good enough for cooling? I am not trying to heatsoak after a 1/2 throttle run in the middle of summer. Or even turn the car into a slug after one WOT sprint from 0-80.
I'm curious for those running the 180 in hot climates in the summer or year round, what cooling do you have and how consistent is your car to run a 180 with your cooling mods?
I am on the fence between going with a 172 and 180, and the ONLY reason holding me back from the 180 is I'm afraid it'll heatsoak too quickly and the car will be slow as hell in the summer , but a BEAST in the winter.
I'd appreciate any feedback!
i have seen a well modded 180 die after racing me a few times --- So, I would go with a 172 or 175.... if I were to do it over again

Oh what to do, what to do!
I don't track my cars at all. Just the few WOT runs here and there on a freeway entrance ramp or open road.
The decision between a 172 and 180 is difficult!
I am going to put in a bigger tank soon and see how that helps out but if you live in weather that is hot often you will certainly suffer with a 180 even with a better pump and heat exchanger in my case. It is fine for quick little blasts but if you are trying to run through several gears (say starting at 40 and going to 120) you will feel the car stop pulling as hard once you get up over 100). Weather in Maryland is 100% better year round than down here though, I know people who live around there and while I am suffering in high 80s or 90s part of the year here, it is like high 60s there.
For example I don't know where you live in Maryland but right now it is 71 in Ocean City, 77 in Baltimore and 88 here in Florida with a "feels like" of 100 with the humidity and whatever else factored in.
You should be fine because even though you say it gets hot there you aren't experiencing it for long periods of time and most of the time are much cooler than places in the south. Then to go further if you are just wanting to pull out of a side road and pound it to 70mph you will be fine too, it is just once you start trying to go from 0 to 100+ you will feel the heat of the 180 slowing you down.

I'm just worried for the summer here,... the car will die on a very hot day and will feel sluggish the rest of the ride home or just around town after one strong WOT run

Other than that, I drive like a granny for the most part!
