Notching the grille

This day an age we all realize scoops actually allow for better intake flow. I was washing the car today and really took notice of the grille. Theres these extra "tabs" on the outskirts of the grille, right were my scoops end up (B).

So I took off the grille and notched them off with my grinder. If you notice A, theres even 2 slots up top that dont even allow for air to pass through, so I cut those out as well.

Nothing important, but for all those with scoops, its worth looking into.

I cut mine out with a dremel when I picked up my spare grille before I painted it.

Looks like a clean job!

Would this be a problem driving in the rain

I think the area is seal so that water is not sucked into the intake when driving in the rain.
I am thinking of doing this on my E63 also.
I took my filters out and clean the air box 500 miles ago when I removed filters again the box were full of trash. I can not imagine what it would be like if the taps was not removed.Yes, I know that is why we have the filters...

Dremel was super effective.

Cutting blade to notch out roughly from the back, then cylindrical to give smooth edges. Only tough spot was the corner which I used the cutting blade for.
