E55 Exhaust System
My question is what potential issues its removal could have?
I am not sure whether to remove it entirely along with the intermediate muffler, or to remove the crossover pipe and replace the intermediate muffler with a properly designed crossover pipe like that on the M5.
Isn't a crossover pipe a good thing? In US cars, it improves performance. Why do you want to remove it?

I am not an expert on exhaust design, but the standard crossover pipe looks like a flow killing, turbulance inducing nightmare. I would like some more knowledgable opinions on the matter.
Below is a pic (thanks Dr Chill) of the E55 factory crossover. This is not on the S,CL and SL55 and appears to be the only real difference in the W211 exhaust system.

I agree. In Germany, many people go to MKB and get a crossover-pipe for their SL 55s.

The crossover-pipe is not enough I think, what about the silencers? I heard a modified SL55 a while ago and I loved the sound. Not sure if it was modified by MKB parts though.
