Acceleration in Sport vs Comfort mode

I've got an 08 e63 that I picked up about a month and a half ago. When I first got it, I drove it mostly in sport mode. I've been messing around with Comfort mode lately and sizing up the differences.

Can any of the knowledgeable folks elaborate on any acceleration differences between sport and comfort?

I don't know if it's just the harder gear shifts that make it seem like Sport mode is giving me more acceleration, or if I'm just a n00b.

What do thy board experts think? My imagination? Or is everything working as designed and I'm being a fool.

I'm definitely going to drive it pretty much in comfort mode. The gear changes in sport mode were sharp to the point of annoyance. Especially downshifting. 3rd gear was like hitting an air brake. I was getting ready to take it in a ask if everything was ok, but I think I'm just getting old. So comfort mode it is.

sport starts in 1st gear vs 2nd -- and shifts are at higher rpms --- thats about it. If you slam the gas in C it will still go as fast as S... only real difference is during regular driving --- Also, note that the trannie adapts to driving style -- so, if you drive like its the Indy 500 in C.. it will store that driving style.

I got it used and I've spent much time (at work of course) wondering how the guy before me drove it. I wish the "sneaky ECU" reset that was in another thread here worked for the 63. Any advice on that front to reset it so that it adapts to me? Or will it eventually overwrite the old guy with it's new master?

disconnecting the battery seems to work for all cars

The 63 has vast differences between "C" and "S" outside of throttle body response the MPG in C is around 30% better than S, even in highway driving. the sneaky ecu reset works on the E63, I have a 2008 and it works fine. Read deeper into the threads

In my 07 E63, the adaptive transmission in Sport mode seems to have a pretty short memory (minute or two). It starts me out in 2nd gear unless I'm driving harsh, and then it'll start me out in 1st and hold my rpms longer before upshifting or downshifting. If I'm really gunning it, it almost feels like manual mode how it downshifts early to keep rpms high. Pretty cool feature because if I calm back down it assumes an almost comfort mode again until I romp on it. Probably well explained in the manual or elsewhere on the forum but I never bothered to look it up.

This is only in normal driving conditions ( which I'm sure you know but I'm just putting it out there )...C will start in 1st if you mash the throttle from a start. C will also shift smoother in normal driving conditions and will not hold gears nearly as much, like S does.

Also just a tip here, for even smoother shifts add a transmission fluid additive (I use Lucas Oil addative) and the shifts in C mode become like butta!

Super smoothe and the fluid isn't very expensive.

Can you please provide more info, I just spend 15 min digging deep in the ECU reset threads and short of SDS or disconnecting the battery, have not found a solution that works on the 63s.

Not complaining. Just curious and trying to learn what I can from those more knowledgeable than me.

Comfort works good when the wife is in car. Sport is for me. Which, you know, is probably the point of having an adjustable transmission in a 4 door sedan.

When you explain that the downshifting is "sharp", is it consistent or intermittent or only when it's cold?

Pretty consistent, but maybe a bit harsher when it's cold, but still harsh after driving for awhile. It's pretty much only 3rd gear though. Other gears are sharp-ish, but don't feel like an anomaly. Just like a sporty shift. Which is why I was starting to think it was a problem of some kind. Comfort is smooth downshifting across all gears, so it appears to just be Sport.

May just have to ask about it next time she goes in for service.
