Major oil leak back of engine??

Just got off the phone with my indy who I trust (years of work on my cars). My 55 went in for service E+ and I requested the crank shaft position sensor be replaced as well. In doing that, found heaps of oil. Pan on bottom of engine was catching it so not apparent to me. He has to drop the tranny to investigate further. Any clues?? Thanks.

If he has to drop the tranny must be the rear main seal or RMS cover provided he is sure it is oil and not trans fluid.

I sometimes think the underbelly pans are just there to catch oil... aerodynamics my ****...lol.

My car has the same exact thing...and it will stay that way until it becomes so bad that I force myself to lower my transmission ( or it fixes it's self...which is unlikely ). I hope it's not soon ( it's been like this since I bought it ).

Thanks everyone. Main seal is the indy's guess as well. Taking it back in next week, will update if any surprises.

Make sure he replace the seal cover and not just clean it up. They are not that expensive and often times get damaged when removing unless he knows the 'trick' to removing it. That being to removing by pulling down vs side by side or prying off which can bend /break the cover.
