New Air intake!!!
One of my many new mods that I was testing the week before the Texas mile. Early test were strong but with other engine issues never completed final dyno test. I can tell you this was staying on the car for the mile! Front filters are open and allow air in through stock grill vents as well. With my ported heads and larger crank pulley, this was a must have mod for air flow.

I had a very similar set up to this (not as well done as yours though) and I can tell you one thing the whine on the sc is way louder. I do believe you will deff see more air flow, however the temperature of the air is where you might run into problems.. Looks good though..

the restriction at the radiator support is significant so unless that support is modified (which would rquire some decent work) this set up isn't accomplishing much.

Looks weird with the cover still on. Take that off if you're going to run that setup.
Also, isn't the E55 non Mass Air and Speed Density? I thought with speed density that adding more airflow did nothing as opposed to mass air. The only way it will make a difference is if you have a tune that compensates for added airflow? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

Incorrect. If the supercharger has less restriction on the inlet then it'll be able to create more boost which the map sensor will be able to see and compensate for it. The big question here is, does the added boost ( if any ) make up for the added inlet temperature. Only a dyno with the hood closed will tell.
Its actually pretty funny the amount of people who laughed at me when I first did this.. Seems to be a different response here.. I really dont care either way, as im not trying to break any records and Im back to the stock air boxes and intake tubes now anyway..

There should be no ram air effect in the oem setup since the inlets are kinda hidden behind the sides of the grill and the air the engine is sucking in is probably nearing sonic speeds. I've never believed much is the "ram air" effect. I only believe in well made, free flowing, air induction systems.

Is it time to build a ram air hood? Save some weight and grab the air from outside the engine bay? Maybe a race hood for the mile/strip and a street (OEM) hood. Or maybe something like the SL65 black series hood.

Agree. These cone filters under the hood are highly proficient at sucking in hot air and not much else. The air inlet needs to be able to draw in unheated air from in font of the car, the fenderwells, the cowl area, etc. But not from under the hood.

Ive been "trying" to build a custom intake after the thread discussion with Loco. Where are you guys getting the Y pipes? I know my fabrictor could make on up, but that is where I am stuck....

it works -- dont mind the heat -- its no different than the OEM airboxes -- Big increase in power... just take off all the hood insulation and rubber trim.
