E55 S/C Idler pulley fell off... S/C oil?
So my S/C idler pulley was making a lot of noise and I was gonna fix it, then it randomly stopped making noise... I figured it just kind of went away or found some sort of sweet spot.
So I drove the car for a few days and the S/C wasn't working (i was having issues with this before, so I didn't pay it much mind)... Then today, I'm driving and it smelt horrible, so I popped the hood to find the S/C pulley fell off along with the belt, and damaged the second pulley that sits with it.
The reason I am worried is because there was oil that came out form the S/C clutch assembly that smelled horrible, it wasn't EVERYWHERE, but it did spray lightly in a few spots.....
Now, I parked the car and I'm not touching it until I get a new pulley and belt..
Is that S/C oil? If so, why would it leak out because of no belt? What are the dangers?
Thanks,
Will

I've said it before and I will rephrase it again; these are $100K+ automobiles and regardless of what they sell for today or tomorrow, they will always require careful, skilled maintenance. As they age these service events will increase. It is not unrealistic to be looking at a $5K repair. At the very least, these cars should be serviced to the letter in accordance with the factory schedules. I predict that by the time the E55 reaches 15 years old that 75% of them will have found their way to the scrap yards.

And how can I make sure there is still oil in there? And how can I make sure the S/C is ok?
Thanks,
Will

Are you sure it is not grease that sprayed? When the SC bearings go bad, it will sling grease that is used to pack the bearings along the plane in which the pulley spins. is the underside of the removable engine cover coated in grease?

I would honestly remove the supercharger and open her up to she WHY the oil came out to begin with. It's not really that hard, I did it once and took about 4 hours total. Adding more oil would do nothing if you don't know why it came out, which isn't normal.

If the supercharger pulley came off of the mount, then it's the bearing grease. There really isn't a reason why the supercharger drain bolt would have worked itself out. The bearing grease has the same fowl smell as the supercharger oil. I would be worried that you damaged the pulley mount on the supercharger. I bet the bolt sheared off and is still attached to the mount.
Posting pics would make it easier to diagnose things for you. The sound you were hearing was probably the supercharger pulley bearing seizing.
