Changed my E55's oil for the first time!
First time I've changed the oil since I've bought it 5000 miles ago. I had bought it from a Ford dealer and they said they had recently changed the oil with Mobil 1...or so they said atleast.
Well today I go to my stealership and grab the oil filter and oil filter wrench and the 9 qts of 5W-40 MB recommends aswell as new plugs and copper rings. I also go and buy some rhino ramps which I now love and some seafoam to put in the crankcase. I put the seafoam in and drive around for awhile to clean up as much gunk as possible. Now that my oil is all warmed up from going to grab the stuff and get underneath take the panels off and get to work in making a mess(I was successful). Drained it to the last drop and put the new plugs in as tight as I could. Patched her up, put the oil filter in followed by about 8.5 qts of oil and start her and all is well.
Now driving her around the motor feels nice and the smoothest I've felt since buying he car. Now idk if it was the seafoam or the new oil but I don't care because the car feels great! Now just to clear the Service B warning.
Tomorrow inspecting the brakes and attempt to detail the car. All things to do before I install my 180mm pulley next week!

I think they recomend 0W 40 Mobil 1 in the 55's
Years ago (2007) they switched to 5W 40 then 6 months later switched back to 0W 40 on the m113k.
My understanding was that the 5W 40 was for the 4 valve engines that don't have roller rockers.
More info on oil changes here,

Buy yourself a good torque wrench for x-mas. And, if you can't afford SDS, buy a $20 1 year Alldatadiy subscription for your car. Do you really want to strip your oil pan drain bolts???? Did you really expect to see a torque spec stamped on the bolt? Please, arm yourself with tools and knowledge before you mess with the beast.

@Yacht Master: everywhere I saw it was 5w-40 here is a diy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C_4R0SFS-Q0
@reitmeid: I have done oil changes before and this is usuall how I do and have never had a problem before especially since I use brand new plugs each time. I will be reinspecting the car after about 500 miles just to make sure everything is all right but I don't see why it wouldn't be.

I thought you meant spark plugs. Oil pan you can guess at if your handy. The part about tightening as much as you can sounded bad. Overtightening bolts can lead to all kinds of problems down the road if not right away.

Congrats on the new purchase.
MB does recommend 0W40 as previously stated.
Also, both oil drain plugs are one time use, so it is highly recommended to replace both at each oil change (they are $4-$5 incl. the washer from the dealer).
*Edit*..just realized you replaced the drain plugs.

Also why do you think MB gave me 5w-40 instead of 0w-40

5w-40 meets mb spec for gasoline engines if wasn't ESP formula they gave u. They use 5w-40 at the dealers pumped from a drum. it is very hard to obtain non ESP formula 5w-40 in bottles but it can be found.

i just replace the washers and reuse the plugs. no problems. I never heard about replacing drain plugs at each oil change.

Curious as to why replace the plugs? They are not going to get torque fatigued. I can see changing the gasket/washer. Of course the dealer will recommend because it is more money for them.

Sounds like it has some kinda coating on it that crushes to form a better seal in the threads? Probably so people that spent around 100 grand on a car after taxes and junk don't end up with any spots on their driveway. Maybe they should have micro-encapsulated the valve cover gaskets? lol
I'd try reusing them and if they leaked then replace them. Seems a lil ridiculous to replace em every time. Especially since it seems members are reusing them without issue.
